Pretty shocking. BK was/is such a fraud. I, for their sake, hope other universities are coming up to speed on the person BK is.

BK came to LSU with the impression LSU recruited itself, and all he had to do was just serve as "CEO" to get the championship bozos like Les and O won

BK was never vetted- massive mistake by Woody- never talked to former players or coaches- That was a catastrophic mistake

This is how I feel too regarding Kelly fleecing the fans, university, and players with that alleged 100 million dollar effort. Kelly should be ashamed

I'm an LSU fan that had his head in the sand concerning Kelly's lack of recruiting prowess.

In my opinion, BK did ok in recruiting, but I think it was slighly below the type of players Miles, Saban and Coach O signed. In addition , he lost between 20 and 25 players to the portal each year.. So far we haven't lost a player in the 5 day window since his firing.. I remember when Jack Beche transferred.
I thought that was very strange. I don't think BK even knew Beche.

Yes. I found the story:
quote:

Chaisson said he told Orgeron that he couldn’t fit him in for the home visit because he was headed out on an early-morning flight for an official visit to the University of Florida. But Orgeron wasn’t going to take no for an answer.

“I was like, ‘Coach we don’t have time for a home visit. We’re about to head out.’ Man, he came to my house at four in the morning knocking on the door while everybody’s asleep. He made sure he got his visit in,” Chaisson said.

But it didn’t stop there. Orgeron followed Chaisson to the airport and continued making his pitch for LSU.

“He literally followed me to the airport and walked me all the way through TSA and was like, ‘Bro, we got to have you. Please. I know what to do with you,’” Chaisson said.

Orgeron’s passion made all the difference for Chaisson. The fact that LSU was the first school to offer him a scholarship — before he even played a down of varsity football — played a role in his decision to play in Baton Rouge, too.

“I felt like if any coach is going to do all of that, it’s definitely more than a job to him. It’s personal,” Chaisson said.

How does this fit with BK being willing to dance with recruits like an idiot? Seemed then that he was putting effort into recruiting, even if he came off as a loon.
I am sure this was some manufactured deal to make him seem cool that some outside agency suggested, I am also sure that the firm that recommended it was fired in short order.

Kelly thought he could come to a big SEC program, hire decent assistants and the talent would be so good that you just win. I imagine the culture was the wild wild west when he came in, in his attempt to try to implement processes and order he forgot that in the end he is coaching 18-23 year old guys that need to see energy and have a relationship. But instead of correcting it he went with the "ive been doing this 35 years approach"

There's a story when O was at USC, he visited a recruit at his school and as he was leaving, he saw a rival school come in for their recruiting visit. Dude waited in the parking lot for like 2 hours for that guy to leave and went back in for another visit.

Say what you will about Orgeron, but that guy was a relentless recruiter back when he cared. I remember there was some recruit out of Houston that O showed up at 6 AM with coffee to see him. Weird, but kind of cool

The story in the book "meat market" about him visiting a recruit at his house then parking down the street and seeing what other coaches came to visit so he would know who to talk shite about was pretty good

This is why I feel like you should always do a real search and hire a firm if possible.

It sounds like Woodward was letting shite slide. One article said Woodward would also aggravate coaches.
That along with him recommending all these hires is weird to me.
