Blake Shapen Miss State Portal

Shreveport native Blake Shapen played 4 games for Mississippi State this season. Also played three years at Baylor. Should be able to receive a redshirt this year and will be a RS SR next season. If Nussmeier comes back, we should target him to compete for the #2 spot. Would give us 3 QBs with SEC experience on the roster…He has not entered the portal yet, but likely will with Jackson Arnold headed to State.

So you think this kid might transfer because he doesn't want to compete with Jackson Arnold in an offense he already knows, but will be fine coming to compete with Nuss in an offense in which he has no experience?

YES! Hes from my old stomping grounds back in the day! I was so devestated when he chose Baylor over LSU. People to this day talk about how Shapen is the best qb to ever come out of Shreveport! BK go get this gun slinger!!

This portal season is going to be rough. How about you guys not post every little player that enters your thoughts in portal season? Especially ones that are not realistic or add much value to LSU's roster. Why do you think he wants to come to LSU if Nuss is returning? Even if Nuss isn't returning do you think LSU is going to hinge their season on this QB? Use common sense.

Shapen was only good in high school because Evangel dropped him 15 yards back to pass so he never got touched. That, and their “scholarship” athletes . frick evangel

This is laughable. He’s not even top 5 at Evangel, much less all of Shreveport.

Considering Terry Bradshaw and Joe Ferguson, just to name a couple, came from Shreveport, I highly doubt he's the best ever.

Reality is, that if Nuss stays, LSU likely will not take a QB out of the portal. The quality guys are looking for a starting spot. And as we saw very clearly with Swann, those who are ok with being a backup are trash.
If Nuss goes, I would think LSU chases Arnold. If not, they’ll focus on developing Hurley and try to bring in a the Freshman from NC.

They are not chasing Arnold in the portal lol. If they do, LSU is in big trouble. They certainly aren't expecting Hurley to takeover next year. If it ends up that way, BK should just expect to pack his bags by the end of the season.
