I try to not panic and normally stay level headed when it comes to these things. But it just makes no sense how Ole Miss can obtain Walter Nolen AND Oatis. Along with Prince from Florida. Not to mention Amos and Richardson (who is now gone to the draft) And we cant get not a single dt??
Nah, it does make sense: Ole miss saw that the SEC schedule release gave them a super favorable draw, and had a solid base of returning production so strategically picked this as the year to "go all in". They're not a team that has the resources or structural advantages to contend every year, so they made a call to try and contend THIS year, even to the detriment of long-term program building. Note that people were saying this even BEFORE they landed their first big transfer - so it's not just wishful thinking to explain away or discount the apparent success of a rival.
By contrast, LSU, when it is operating at peak efficiency, IS a program that can contend every year - so the best course of action is exactly the one BK has taken: Build sustainably. Focus primarily on HS recruiting--especially with your $--and use the portal opportunistically, to plug holes and cheaply add depth. You say that LSU "can't get a single DT", but that's not actually the case at all - LSU just flipped Dom McKinley from A&M a few weeks ago. We could've probably been players for some of these big portal guys, but we opted to take the long-term route instead. Compare that with Ole miss, whose HS recruiting class is ranked 10th in the conference, and would probably be 11th if a&m wasn't going through a coaching change.
Here's the bottom line: Probably neither Ole miss nor LSU is going to win it all in 2024. But one year from now, Ole miss's roster is going to be in comfortably worse shape than it is now, because all these guys they've paid up for will be gone, with no home-grown talent to replace them--while LSU, on the other hand, will have its best long-term roster outlook since probably 2010, with consecutive top ~5 classes in their 2nd and 3rd years and potentially a #1 overall class following them up as freshmen.
Also, as an addendum, I will note that Shea recently stated that we fully expect to add a certain starter-caliber DT in the spring window (the implication being that everything is largely worked out and we just need to wait for the time to arrive), and are actively pursuing a couple other pieces as quality depth. So even insofar as the portal goes, the staff isn't sitting on its hands by any stretch.

They didn’t have a choice given the lack of decent high school signees. They were desperate

Ole Miss is going all in on this season and rightfully so. I doubt they can continue at this clip year on year though. I doubt the money being spent is sustainable outside of this one year.

mean he is from there
He grew up closer to Baton Rouge and was very interested before he committed to Bama. He was about 100 lbs heavier then so I’m not surely we really pressed that hard

Yes Ole Piss is loading up on portal talent, the best talent that money could buy, how that worked out for A&M? There's so many sports teams that pumped dollars into FA pickups and all the big names on the market and fall flat on their faces. So before you annoint Ole Piss the heir apparent to Saban let's just see how it all works out.

They are going all in for 2024 knowing a few things.
2024 and the 12 team playoff will be there best chance ever to win.
They lose a lot of talent after 2024
Lane is likely not there for the long haul so the Ole Miss brass wants to capitalize now and if they do there is a small chance they can convince him to stay.
I’m actually looking forward to Ole Miss football next year. Potential to be the best WAOM season ever when Lane inevitably cracks under the pressure and expectations and they lose 4 or 5 games.

Oatis is the main guy I hoped would leave Bama. I hoped it would for LSU, but I also knew Ole Miss made the most sense for money and coming home.
If he wants to be developed the best and wanted a real shot as a first rounder, he would have come to LSU. We have the coaches now, and we have the spot available.
I guess our true best option is the JUCO kid. I think without Bo, this would be a scary sight, but with two JUCOs, a 4th year guy in Guillory, a 4th/5th year guy in Lee, big 5 star elite Dom who I heard Rivals is also likely to make him a 5 star (pushing him way up in the rankings), and a possible Parish Shand move inside, LSU will have the college experience at be three deep at interior. Bo can work with that kind of experience and level of already understood concepts.

Spring window isn’t as good of a crop of players as this past one. A lot of spring window is full of guys that got passed up in spring ball and weren’t going to play where they were at
Not as many is true and some got passed up for sure. However, there are many instances where a FR or SO as good or close to as good as a JR or SR gets chosen to start simply because he will be around longer. Those JR and SR guys are your perfect "plug and play" guys for another team filling certain positions.

It’s different than what A&M did.A&M did it with high school recruits. Ole Miss is doing it with the older proven transfers. It worked well for Florida State

Why aren’t we going all in every season? Is Kiffin the new Saban?
shite, this is starting to piss me off.

Putting a bunch of highly ranked players who are looking for the biggest handout together doesn’t mean they will play well as a team. If it did, Texas A&M wouldn’t have had to fire their head coach last season. Also keep in mind that Ole Miss lost by far their best offensive player to the portal.
