I disagree. Saban knows the talent in Louisiana which is why he spent so much effort building and maintaining relationships here. He also knows lsu is the team which for the past several years has been closest to matching bama man for man in the sec.

I think saban is very much aware that lsu has upped its game significantly with the coordinators and he needs to not only get the talent but to take it from lsu. Saban knows who the threat is and puts a lot of effort into hurting lsu.

If lsu is able to beat bama 50% of the time, there goes his dynasty and he knows it

I don't think Saban "worries" about anything that any other SEC team is doing. He is focused on developing the talent that he has collected and winning championships. That is what drives Saban, not who signed with LSU or Georgia or Tennessee.

Getting Smith was more critical for Bama, because Amite has another stud player coming up in 2019 I believe.

And he knows that these LA players - even if they rarely see the field - become Bama promoters/handlers when they return to LA. It's a long term strategy. We don't have anything like that outside of LA.

it will all end when the networks tire of Bama and ratings slip. Then the holding calls will increase, maybe an investigation, and some penalties. If y'all haven't figured this out yet.....

Why do we ALWAYS have to compare EVERYTHING to Bama....

The same reason Pepsi compares themselves to coke.
Why Bing compares themselves to Google.
They're #1. They're in our division. They're in our conference. They're beating us and outrecruiting us. They're stand in the way of our goals. If you wanna get to their level, you have to be Bamassessed. This is always a stupid question with an obvious answer. Are you even watching?

and he's not alone. per capita, Louisiana produces a lot of top talent. all coaches recruit here it's just that bama wins some of those battles. and he isn't the only coach that signs our players. remember the 5 for 5 shite? we lost one to ucla, one to florida, one to a&m and we signed two. and I remember bobby Bowden raiding our state as much or more than saban a few decades ago. it was dinardo that started the "fence" thing. top players want to go to top programs; miles was great with in state recruiting until he lost it

You would be wrong.
Saban himself said his team trains to play LSU. That's the game he prepares for above the others.

LSUBrown has this right. Saban nay not be as preoccupied with LSU as some may think, but he is smart enough to recognize that while Auburn is their biggest rival, LSU is their biggest threat. Alabama does not have the luxury of relying on in state talent, he HAS to recruit out of state players, particularly from Louisiana, Florida and Georgia. Locking down Louisiana talent makes LSU stronger and also takes away a vital area for Saban from a recruiting standpoint. It also changes perception, which is more important, but also more fickle, than it has ever been. If LSU were to beat Bama and win the West next year, then go on to keep the top Louisiana players at home, things could change far more quickly than most people would imagine.

Why would they not get a single recruit from the top 50? I'm sure they'll land 20 of them. Per usual lol.

I would also like to know why Bama will not get any top 50 recruits also!

Idk.

There's not another team in the SEC that competes with his team as closely and consistanly since he's been there as LSU does.
Recruiting and on the field.

He's just been a little better than us and it's shown last few times.

Great post.

Saban is driven to dominate. He leaves no stone unturned. And he is our competition. If we're going to overtake him we're going to have to adopt the same attitude.

Change the stipend and recruiting will change. It's simple.
