They are both projected as 1st rounders. Konner Griffin is supposedly a Dylan Crews type talent. Schmidt is potentially a major league starter at some point. They could be a spring board back to better days.

Griffin has been told by LSU that they (NIL) will match any $$ figure that he gets from MLB draft

Both aren't coming to LSU but maybe a sliver of hope for Schmidt since he's from BR.

I’m guessing no shot at Cam Caminiti either?

Had someone tell me the other day they read an article that he was offered $8 mil in NIL, but I didn't believe that was true. Who reported this???

Griffin is more highly thought of out of high school than even Crews was.

DidnT Griffin get touched up on the coast? Maybe he wants the college experience instead of you know the bus!

The “bus” side of the minors isn’t like it was portrayed “Bull Durham”. Many level of minor league ball play six game series with an off day on Monday. They are taking one bus ride a week. And most are not in podunk towns either. The High A Northwest League has teams in Vancouver, Spokane, Eugene, and Everett Washington. That being said, the experience that LSU can provide is unlike what you will see in the low levels of minor league ball. But minor league ball has greatly improved the playing conditions for their players in the last 10 years or so.

I gaurantee that the life of a college star is way better than a MiLB prospect in this new NIL era. If they are ok with school duties the college is a better choice.

I just can't believe LSU will match the money he could get as a first round MLB selection. Maybe they can make him a nice offer, and perhaps he decides he wants the college experience, but LSU can't match MLB for money.

Better find the money to get both.

With the disastrous season the Tigers are having this year, I can't believe that they wouldn't do everything possible to get both of these guys on campus.

If you’re an elite high school prospect you’re not considering spending much more time below AAA than an out of college prospect. Additionally, I can’t imagine any of these guys worry about that. This kid will get top money and there isn’t a baseball program across the US who can or would be willing to match that money. The changes to the draft have improved college baseball and made the draft a much less speculative process. Pro teams don’t just waste picks like they used to… especially on Rd1 picks. It would be shocking if Griffin made it to campus.

Schmidt's dad is an engineer for a well known local engineering firm who probably makes good money. Some of the numbers I have been hearing for sign on bonus, I doubt he would even come close to that with NIL deals. You just can't pass up that money. He can always do school online.

I agree that LSU would likely do everything possible to get both players on campus, but it isn't possible for LSU to match MLB first round money. They can make a good offer and, like I said, maybe the college experience will appeal to them. But if the decision comes down to strictly money, LSU can't compete. Not a knock against LSU. No school can match first round money.

As compared to HS Dylan Crews, Konnor Griffin is actually a better prospect--or maybe more accurately is considered a better prospect--than Crews was. However, Crews fell victim to the lack of scouting opportunity with covid. My understanding is that Crews basically just so happened to have the coldest couple-week stretch of his prep/showcase-circuit career immediately before covid shut everything down. So whereas in any other year he'd have had plenty of time to assuage concerns, in that year teams viewed him as a question mark.

That being said, my understanding is that Konnor griffin is someone who, with strong showcase performances between now and the draft, could be a potential 1.1 guy. I dont think crews was ever really viewed that way as a prep prospect.
