My parents sent me a picture of them standing next to the seawall at the lake. Someone else posted a picture of Canal Blvd as effectively a parking lot with people just walking to the levee to go look. Nothing is going on.
Yeah, I've been to the lake 3 times today with the kids. It was like a circus out there around noon today. The dudes doing the kite surfing out there seem to be pretty ballzy.

I remember a hurricane a couple of years ago where TWC was filming guys kite surfing during a storm. One of them got picked up and swung into a brick wall. Ballzy is another word for stupid.

I figured if it got too bad I'd head up to Natchitoches. That may not be the best idea. I can sleep in just about anything....especially after a bottle of Charter. It's the wife that will be uncomfortable. If you need help with the beer....i'll be there.

I just got back from the Lakeshore. I stopped off in Bucktown, West End, Bayou St. John and by UNO. There were people everywhere. There were even people swimming where Bayou St. John comes out at the lake.

I'm just saying, when Ike swung by it was like 300 miles away and there was water up over lakeshore drive. The center of this is 60 miles away and people are walking around on seawall.

Any reports from people in Nola?
Started to pick up pretty good the past 20 minutes with some strong gusts and a lot more rain, but it is still going back and forth between looking like a normal rain storm and a strong rainstorm. Expecting it should start looking tropical within a couple hours.

On a normal day that is literally 6 inches deep.

Gov. Bryant sure doesn't seem as confident as Bobby

Nah, it just always seemed in the past when a front is that close it tends to "grab" the hurricane and drag it more Northerly. Didn't happen this time, and still hasn't IMO.

the satellite pictures are definitely looking more "hurricane-like" now...

Sun is gone in Abbeville .. winds starting to kick up. got our boards ready and in position should we need to put them up. This may get real if it's tracking WEST.

Yea I usually take my dog out there to play in the water. It appeared to be about 4 foot deep with huge waves crashing into it.

"It is strengthening as we speak. It does not, however, have much more time til landfall to strengthen. Cat2 at most, although it will likely remain a Cat1."
It's taken 3 days to get to a minimum Cat 1, I don't think it's gonna make Cat 2 in the next 3 hours.
