That is a great question. In Denham Springs I asked the same thing. Supposedly the cost is too great? Seems like replacing poles and wire every couple of years would cost more.
No idea....I read that Baton Rouge had the most extensive tree canopy of any city in the US. That can possibly make the problem seem worse than it is.
I have my doubts that this storm will maintain strenght long enough to hurt Baton Rouge in a significant way. It is moving very slowly and isn't all that powerful to begin with.

Also as of the 1pm update, still 75 mph and 975 mb
The storm is about 55 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi river

That's what concerns me. We are going to get a TON of rain
This is why you have to be a professional meteorologist - a ton of rain is only about 220 gallons. It is highly likely that Baton Rouge will get more rain than 220 gallons.
Be careful out there folks!

landfall should weaken this one quite a bit right?

looting at marina in slidell per TWC
Posted on 8/28/12 at 1:05 pm to brbengalgal
because it is so slow-moving and the characteristics of South Louisiana, landfall will not weaken this storm as much or as fast as a fast-moving storm.
Will it weaken? Of course, but not as quickly.
