Where to move in / around Baton Rouge in 2021?

Looking at new job transfer from out of state with duties downtown and some work from home office.
Wife and I are 40s, two kids 9 and 7. They are homeschooled right now until COVID is “done” and then I imagine it will be Catholic school after that. Would like to keep commute when I have to do it in the 30-35 minute or less range.
The kids swim, fish, hunt, do Tae Kwon Do, etc,
Priorities are a safe neighborhood now and for at least 10 years, a place where kids can play outside and ride a bike a reasonable distance. We are blessed in the budget department, can make any house or area work because we have military backgrounds.
Thank you in advance for any recommendations

Kenilworth. St. Jude is very close, karate by superior, safe streets and young people moving in in droves.

Prairieville just on the other side of the parish line, but not "deep Prairieville" up Hwy 42.
Stay around Old Perkins Road, and you'll have the best of both worlds - safe neighborhoods, amazing public schools, and a 30 minute commute to downtown Baton Rouge.
Basically, the red, green, and some of the blue areas on this map:

High ground - avoid any home within 1/2 mile of a creek, bayou or large drainage ditch.
Depending on your price range, the stretch of Highland Road from University Acres south to Magnolia Woods is a good place to start.

I say just don’t live in the city limits and you’re fine.

My kids and I love Magnolia woods. They ride their bikes to the pool for swim practice, fish in the creek, shoot air rifles in the woods, and ride their bikes to the convenience store for candy, or to the subway for lunch.
We are close to everything, several schools, hospitals, retail, LSU, and restaurants.
We lived in the subdivision when they were younger, moved out to upgrade, and found we liked the old neighborhood with its charm, more than our newer one with more amenities. We moved back after a few years out.
Housing prices are appreciating, and many house are being completely remodeled. A lot of the neighbors are older and have been in the neighborhood for forty plus years, but a lot of young families are moving in. The neighborhood also has a great canopy of mature trees. We see lots of wildlife in our yard including foxes, coons, possums, box turtles, rabbits, and even a deer.
The only issue is people rummage through unlocked cars occasionally. I don't think you can find a Baton Rouge neighborhood where that doesnt happen.

Move into the Walden Subdivision. We need more young families.

Can't stress this enough. "This is the first time we've ever flooded and my Houma ancestors settled this land" is a phrase we've been hearing more and more.

Dude you’re on here talking about moving to fricking Baton Rouge. The murder per capita capitol of the United States, that has a 90% black school system that is one of the worst in the country. Bad traffic, bad infrastructure, few to no good public amenities, the nations highest sales tax, state income tax ( that they want to no change to come off your entire gross not adjusted gross for fed tax paid) oh and also still has property taxes. All directed by the biggest, most corrupt group of completely incompetent liberal idiot leadership that world has ever seen.
Edit to add, oh yeah and it floods, and they haven’t fixed one fricking thing since then except for changing street and school names and taking down some statues.
So yeah, Texas has high property taxes, but they actually go to schools parks and amenities that people use.
Come on and move to Baton Rouge and see how much you like it when you’re sending your kids to private school, paying to play golf at a private club, and wondering when the next crime wave will over take whatever neighborhood you think is safe from it today.

We live in the garden district (South end) and love it. We haven’t had any crime issues either.
