Any thoughts on outlying areas like Zachary or Denham Springs?

Suck up the extra commute and stay the heck out of EBR at all costs. This from someone born in and currently living in South Baton Rouge. The town has become a shithole and when my elderly Dad is gone, so am I.

If downtown, consider the St Francisville area. Looked really hard at Zachary at one time, don’t think I would today.

If you decide to move to St George (shenandoah subdivision) There is a really good Tang Soo Do place right by Shenandoah hardware. Mr Darin does a great job with the kids and he does it because he loves it. This shows in his commitment to the kids and Tang Soo Do. Tang Soo do is similar to Tae Kwon do, The major difference is scoring and there is some grappling and they allow face strikes.

yea because everything you mentioned in your last sentence of your post is strictly because that's what you want to do not what you have to do. Nut up and move out of the parish.

I'm here again to say, look elsewhere. BR is a dump, and I've lived here for almost 34yrs. This place sucks...at everything.

Thanks Papapogey. So many good recommendations here in EBR and you have a different position and think strongly enough about it to come post again, so thank you … with that said, any specific towns or communities in mind within 40 minutes or so of downtown BR but yet “not BR” as you say?

I’m looking at listing my house. Let’s cut the agent out and make a deal?

4000 sf, 5 bed/5 bath on a pond off highland road

I’m surprised no one mentioned Oak Hills. I moved in last September and love it. We take daily walks with the kids/dog and have lots of friendly neighbors. There are young kids biking around all the time and it’s an active neighborhood.

I grew up on Kenilworth (magnolia woods) and enjoyed my biking adventures there but had a lot of school friends that lived in Oak Hills. I always wanted to live in there and we made that happen last year.

Hey neighbor.

And I agree. Oak Hills is a great location. It’s proximate to lots of stuff but feels out of the way. Big yards (depending on the particular area of the neighborhood), large houses, side walks, houses set back off of the streets.

Might have some aging houses in some areas but those should continue to be picked up and improved. The housing prices support it.

agree with this...we are in Oakridge, next door to Oak Hills and feel the same...close to everything, but tucked away enough to feel safe(er)....love it here

that said, if OP was serious about more outdoorsy aspects (hunt/fish) and still want 30-40 minutes to downtown...I might look toward Brusly/Plaquemine/Port Allen outskirts

it's growing out there but is still "country" and you have to navigate the bridge, but total commute time to downtown will be about same
