If you're going Generac, I recommend Optimize EGS. They were a pleasure to work with.

Anybody know of a good company on the Mississippi coast?

I had Boudreauxs Electrical install mine a couple weeks back. 26kw air cooled, transfer switch, 10 free year warranty, 25 hour break in and maintenance plan. From start to install it took two weeks. All top notch

Price?

$13k for everything, I didn’t have much of a run to the gas line and electrical panel, 10 feet max. So I know that saved on cost. They hand dig and bury the cabling, handled the permit and got the inspection scheduled. Also that price includes brand new carbon monoxide and smoke detectors in all rooms where someone would sleep.

Id be cautious with generac's We had a lot of employees who had them & many failed during the past hurricanes

Plenty worked well in Houma. The people.who do fine with them understand they are entry level generators and cannot run 24/7 without maintenance

Exactly. Just run them like you run your portable gasoline ones. 6am to 6pm. Enough to sleep really comfortable and charge up your refrigerator/freezer.

Bumping this -
Have a generac 24kw in Houston area. Plumbed to my gas line. Ran for 5 days straight after the recent tornado.
Got my bill and figured it cost $9/day to run the generator and power everything like normal in the house. Regular electric bill works out to be about $10/day during the summer.

wow that seems really low. I thought $50/day was a ballpark for a whole home gen.

Hell no - at least not in my experience. It's closer to $10-$20/day max.

Well damn, heh.
Good point though - it certainly does depend on usage and what you're being charged per CF.

+1
They are not constant-duty machines and should be treated as such. A Generac tech told me check the oil every 48 hours of constant run time to make sure the level is good. I think the oil change interval is 100 hours but would need to double check. I’m still amazed at how clean the oil stays compared to a gas burning engine.

I hear you. I was expecting more. Ran two ACs, fridge, lights, TVs for a bit over 5 full days - just like nothing had happened. Normal gas bill runs about $40-$45 month in summer - was $108. Figured the difference was the cost of running the generator.
