Worst
Barn doors
Ornate stucco details
Glass tile backsplash
Overly cut up roof lines
Overly open floor plans i.e. living/kitchen/dining all one space
Open shelving instead of upper cabinets
Pot fillers
Best
Laundry connected to master closet
Large built showers
Separate water closets
Large islands
Large drawers instead of standard base cabinets in kitchens
Hardwood in bedrooms instead of carpet
Outdoor kitchens

I would add sinks in the island
Seems like a good idea but it’s a pain to keep clean constantly for some families

An absolute waste. Horrible concept along with stoves in islands.

Best: back yard raised decks with his and her bathtubs.

I’ll add this. After seeing a seamless/frameless shower door, I really couldn’t consider not having one.

Excuse me sir…. The modern terminology is called Sex Decks.

When I look at 90% of newer homes, they all look the same. Unless you have a custom home built on some land, they look the same. My wife and I chose to buy a ~100 year old Acadian home in 2015. We're at about 90% restored. So glad we did this.

I have two kids and a dog. At this point in life i could not think of a better floor than LVP. The house we had prior to building this one had engineered hardwood and it had to be replaced when it was 3.5 years old. The house before that had real hardwod and we got a soild 10 years out it.
I'll agree to disliking sinks in the island, barn doors, and shelves instead of upper cabinets.
Walk in pantry, gas cooktops, and a decent laundry rooms are a must have in my opinion now days.

I use my prep sink in island almost daily. Love being able to separate uses. Don’t like defrosting meat or crap in my regular sink. But we have one of those big farmhouse sinks with no divider. I could see that being a dumb trend. But sure is nice to be able to put sheet pans in it.
I thought a pot filler was stupid too, but use it all the time
I hate the open open floor plans. I have one and makes my house feel 700 square foot smaller. And we have a big area, but when you are in the living room you hear the kitchen, and vice versa.
I don’t understand people still stuccoing homes or the newish trend to paint every house white w black or dark trim .

Use mine 3-4 times a week. Will never own another house without one.

I guess I’m in the minority but I don’t like this trend. Zero shot I want to hear my washer or dryer running while I’m in my bedroom.

If you boil a lot of stuff then sure they can be useful. My problem with them is if they start leaking or a kid/wife absent-mindedly leaves them dripping and everyone leaves the house for the day, they will come back to water on the floor and everything that can come with that.
Having a water producing device that isn't over a drain area is a minor to major disaster waiting to happen. The risk/reward just isn't there for me. But white women are ate up with them.
My #1 bad new thing is the cut-up roof lines just for aesthetics. More expensive upfront. More costly maintenance. Worse home performance.
Its like someone asked "how can we make this home worse in every way?"

Personally, I can't stand the detached garage with a covered walkway leading to it. A lot of the farmhouse style holes near me are popping up with these.
