It’s a large tree, front yard, easily accessible.

I’m on a tight budget. Looking to do it as cheap as possible.

Also wondering if some companies will let me pay on an installment plan.

I’m in Baton Rouge.

That's what they all say.

You're talking about the dregs of society who couldn't do anything else other than climb a tree with a chainsaw. They don't offer financing

I'm in Frisco Texas had an almost dead Live Oak taken down in the front yard just off the driveway so easy access. Highest quote was $2000 paid $800 including stump grinding.

So what’s the range I’m looking at? At what point would I be entering rip-off territory?

Do you want them to cut it down in installments?

How big is it? How close is it to the house? Will a crane be required? Sooooo many factors in this.

Definitely get numerous quotes bc they can vary by a lot. I'd say the $1,500 estimate is about right.

Find a company who is already in the neighborhood. They're always stopping by. /s

Neighbor across the street went with the cheapest guy.

They dropped a tree on his house.

They weren't insured.

Homeowners insurance wouldn't cover it.

Nothing was in the "business owners" name, not even the trucks they arrived in.

Of course the guy who dropped the tree on their house "knew a guy" who could fix the roof... yeah that didn't happen either. They did end up getting a new roof, expanded their front porch but they had to pick get a loan for it.

Get a few quotes, prices can swing based on many factors.

Also, only installment option is pay a price to remove tree, then at a later time is have someone remove/grind the stump

Don’t get James the narcoleptic tree cutter LINK

In all seriousness tree removal isn’t something you really want to pinch pennies on. Get a legitimate company with good equipment to do it. I would guess just based on having several trees removed from my yard that one oak with easy access and stump grinding will likely be 1500-2000. I recently went with a well known tree removal company on the north shore and couldn’t have been more pleased with the results.

I mean how big is the tree? I had a large live oak trimmed recently that cost me $700 and they left it there for me to cut and split for firewood so they just cut and left. They priced removal of a water oak and stump at $3,500. That water oak is about 70-90 feet tall. I told them no thanks

We've had a couple cypress trees removed and it was based on time. One took 30 minutes (insane) and the other took 1.5 hours. Stump grinding included. I went with the best company, the jobs were $600 and $1800.

It was absolutely wild to see how efficient they were. It was like a NASCAR pit crew.

Attach a lightning rod to it, then claim the struck tree on insurance. Depends on your deductible, of course.
