Spare AC Capacitors: Best place to order from?

Capacitor went out on my 4 yr old unit. AC guy replaced it, but i watched him do it. Now i want to order a couple to have on hand, and do it myself next time. I've seen it mentioned here to avoid the chinese ones. So where can I order American made ones?
It's the start capacitor. Unit would hummm but not start up.
I was charged $60 for the part, not counting the service charge for coming out on the weekend.

Don't know where you are but in BR, Coburns is the place I go to for HVAC and plumbing parts. The should have or can get OEM capacitors.

Amrad and Titan HD capacitors are made in the USA.
They cost about twice as much as other capacitors but are still about $25-30.
You can order from Amazon and other stores online.
But it is still probably a crap shoot if one will last.
I keep a couple of spares around just in case. It is an easy change out.

I’d also grab a contactor to keep on hand.

You can order online, but I mine from a local supply house in Vicksburg (about $15). I would imagine Monroe or west Monroe would have an HVAC supply house.

Amazon.
But if you need one quickly I found a local ac supply shop willing to sell me a capacitor even though I was not a licensed installer. Most of those small shops are willing to help out homeowners

quote:agreed. I just had to pay someone to change mine as well. I don’t know much about wire gauges so the electrical stuff I was willing to pay someone to do, but a capacitor is just like changing a battery. Wish I had a space contractor on hand now that I watched him do it.

Just used my spare, ordered another on Amazon.

Got mine from Amazon. Exact same ones that the AC company put in there for 1/10 the price

How much are you guys paying for capacitor or contactor replacement?
I just paid $125 for capacitor replacement at a rental which included the service call.

Service call $155. Part $60. Total $215 plus gave the guy one of my homegrown Calhoun Sweet watermelons. Worked 12 hrs yesterday, came home to a house temp of 82. I was happy to pay the price for cold air, and not suffer til Monday.
Next time though I will change it out myself.

The contactor is easy to change also. Take a picture before you start and hook up the same. Also kill power to the unit. Typically there will be a disconnect up on the wall.

Amrad Turbo 200 is a multi mfd cap. They also make a smaller one too. You can leave it permanent but its kinda expensive for that so I take it off and replace with a cheaper version at my convenience.

Supplyhouse.com. Many of the supply houses in Shreveport won’t sell a “civilian” a gd cap.

Timely, flew back to town to an 85 degree house. Had to sleep that way. Tech said capacitor. Didn’t know keeping a spare is a thing but I do now.

What are you doing exactly? You replaced broken capacitor with the amrad, then take that one off and replace with another? What's the purpose here?

Find a good local mechanical supply, got a Locke in my area and picked up US-made Titan HD blower motor and condenser start/run capacitors for about $70 for new capacitors all around and spares.

I guess everyone else missed this part. The best hard start kit (start capacitor) is the Amrad easy start. They are the best when it comes to run capacitors as well but that hard start kit is solid and I’ve used them on quite a few units.

The Turbo 200 is like an $90 adjustable capacity cap that has enough combinations of terminals to make for any sized mfd cap a residential AC uses. One on hand will cover you for any cap you might need. just google it
