Soft Fluffy Grass that can grow in LA

I planted Bermuda grass but a lot of the grass turns to running vines on the ground. I’ve tried Zoysia grass too. There’s fluffy grass at the front of my neighborhood and I assume it’s Bermuda but there are no vine like roots coming from it. Any help at all would be great. I currently have Bermuda, centipede, zoysia, rye (cow pasture next door) and st Augustine in the yard. Used a app to identify

My Bermuda definitely soft. Maybe cut it more often ? Centipede is definitely off your list.

So you want the grass in the picture? Looks like fescue, good luck

Yea I don’t think you’re gonna grow grass like that in south Louisiana without daily tedious maintenance. Or anywhere in Louisiana for that matter.

That picture looks like blue grass from up north.

Whatever gets the closest to the picture in LA

Looks like St Augustine

That pic is a fescue grass from up north. I had it in Virginia. Nothing prettier in my opinion. For down here maybe palisades zoysia comes the closest if you fertilize the shite out of it and let it grow a little taller.

I have Bermuda and it definitely is not viney

That’s tall fescue. Would die out quick in the Louisiana heat since it’s basically a winter grass. Also doesn’t spread like Bermuda or st Augustine. You have to aerate and overseed every year. Your best bet to replicate that look in Louisiana is St. Augustine, but the grass won’t be as soft.

In wouldn’t call pallisade zoysia soft. But it feel ok walking barefoot. Especially if you keep it low.

Still a tall order for down south to keep it growing.

Empire zoysia is pretty darn soft.

Some of the zoysia varieties I personally think is the softest. Neighbor has palisades and it's pretty soft.
I have bermuda tif419. When it's kept low it's not too bad, otherwise it's definitely not hay soft to the feet.
In the back I did put down some kentucky blue grass spf 30 and well see how it does over the the next summer.

So Palisades or Empire Zoysia seems to be the right choice. There are a lot of Zoysias out there some only come in plugs…no seeds, no pallets of grass.

Gotta cut more often and (if it’s what you want) get rid of the other grasses.
If I don’t stay on top of my Bermuda, it can get a little hard. But when I do keep up with it, there’s no better grass IMO. I’ve had many people compliment my grass in the backyard during birthday parties and go as far as sitting down in it to eat and take their socks and shoes off.

It’s all Bermuda? How did you start? Just dirt and planted seeds? Pallet of grass?

You’re not going to find a warm season grass that is soft like rye. As long as you have full sun tif419 Bermuda sprayed with a growth inhibitor will be your best bet.
