Replacement windows - what’s the cost now?

We replaced all of the windows in our house 10 years ago and paid roughly $400 per window for the double pane argon filled kind.
My son lives in a condo in Metairie and his windows are nasty. Most retailers won’t even come out for 3 windows, but he got Home Depot to do so. They quoted him $2700, $2900 and $3100 with the latter 2 being argon filled and the highest priced ones are slightly thicker.
Prices have increased in 10 years, but damn. I wonder if it’s added labor for him since 2 of the three are higher off the ground. His condo is on the second and third floors of a 3 story building.
He owns the unit, the complex doesn’t upgrade windows, and he does have their approval to make the change.

I ordered a window in August to go over our front door. The one there has rotten wood.
We still don’t have it nor a timeframe.

We got a quote from Pella recently. 10 windows, $16,000. Only one was a picture window, the rest were standard size. Needless to say we’re going to end up with Andersen or similar this summer.

Brother-in-law got a quote for his house - $50k to replace all of the windows. It's about a 4k sq ft house and has lots of big windows, though.
I just talked about it with him and they're going to just replace a couple that really need it and let the next owners deal with the rest - they're considering selling in the next couple of years.
I think he said he's done three so far and it was about $3k.
I have 20 windows that are all 20+ years old, so I'm looking at replacing most if them in the near future. Hopefully prices come down some.

I did mine in oct of 2020 so it was before the price escalations. Then, e glass for replacement of 11 widows, just the glass and istall was around 3 grand. Double pained windows. It has lowered my electricity costs about 20-30 a month.

1 story house, just ordered with Relief Windows for about 670 per window installed. I don't pay anything until the job is done.

I had to replace 7 windows after Hurricane Ida.
Window World was about 3600 for all 7 including installation. They price per window and not the size. So a 20x40 window would cost the same as a 36x72.
I was at Lowes a few weeks ago after the windows were installed and I was glad I used Window World because the large windows were about the same price per window without installation. Also, to further complicate things, I had 3 window bays that required 2 windows side by side.
I was looking back at some old invoices and Window World in 2021 was cheaper than Southern Siding back in 1992 when they were installed.

What kind of windows did you get?

Good luck. We’re building a new house currently. Been in a holding pattern for six weeks waiting on doors and windows. The builder ordered them in July.

Home Depot is expensive and subs out work to whomever will do it cheapest. If anything needs follow up attention it’ll take them 6 months to get the contractor back out there, if they even can.
Call Window World. There’s going to be a decent lead time, but they’ll give you the most value for your dollar.

Add Lowe's to that as well. Buy the material there if you wish but get someone else to install it.

I just ordered 33 bronze vinyl Sierra Pacific for new construction about a month ago. 6 casements and the rest double hung, argon filled, 3/4 of them with non-mulled transoms. All said it was right at $30k. Lead time was 16 weeks at time of order.
My quotes were everywhere from $15k for low end vinyl to $50k for Marvin’s composite line.

I need a window replaced from Ida. Thankfully it isn’t bad. Window World won’t come out for less than 3 windows.

They won’t come out for 3, 4 is the minimum. My son even said what if I pay for four, but they still wouldn’t come.

As someone who works in the industry, something about that quote doesn't sound right.

Similar situation, with question:
Planning on replacing windows from old wooden double hung, to vinyl double. I'll likely purchase and replace on my own (have done this on a previous home. Partly labor cost savings and partly just cuz I like to do my own stuff).
I previously ordered the windows through Lowes or Home Depot, and probably will again this time.
Any idea on turn-around time on the windows once ordered?
