Anyone have tricks / tips for cleaning cartridge pool filters? I normally hold it on an angle and shoot water from the hose. Time-consuming, back-breaking. Anyone buy one of those products that spins the cartridge? Worth it?

I'm about ready to give one of those products a whirl. A little pricey for what it is, but I dread the day I deal with filters. I put mine on a trailer with an expanded metal base, grab a chair and a beer and go to town.

I use one of these spray nozzles and just work my way from the top to the bottom and never seem to find the end of the debris built up on the filters. Eventually just call it good enough.

Yes. I pay my pool bae to do it.

Spray it down very good with cleaner and/or bleach. Let it sit for a few minutes.

Put one of those higher pressure nozzles on your garden hose and go to town. I've never used any of the "helpful" products on the market.

Another tip: If you can swing it, get a second set and swap them out every 3-6 months and clean the ones you take out to have ready for your next change/cleaning.

I use my electric pressure washer. I bring out a stool to sit on and rotate it with my feet, flip them over and repeat.

I bought a metal curve sprayer off of Amazon for about 15 bucks and have used it several times. Does a good job and takes about 15 minutes per cartridge

It’s what I do as well.

Swap it for a sand filter. Hated f’ing around with cleaning the cartridges. Once a week (during the summer), backwash for about 2 to 3 min and r less depending on how dirty the sand is, rinse for about 30 seconds, back to filter.

Sand filter big dog. And replace the sand media with glass.

I use a low psi pressure washer that does not break the filter. Works well and I do all four in about 1.5 hours.

Ditto on this. Works great. I do still soak mine in a big trash can with water and cleaner first, though.

Also, I have two sets of filter cartridges, so when it’s time to clean, I replace the ones in use with the ones I have in storage. Then, I clean/dry the dirty ones at my leisure, box them up, rinse and repeat.

Are you only cleaning your filter every 6 months? Did I read that correctly

Aqua Comb works. I have one of them. I found that the pressure washer just damages the filter. I also have a extra filter and once both are dirty, I clean them both. But I change filters every 4 weeks

For me, I clean them once per year.

I bought one of those filter cleaning hose attachments, metal. Works better than a regular nozzle. If you back the hose away from the filter about 3-4 inches the streams converge for full pressure to get stubborn spots.

Also use a metal bar stool to wash the filters on. Basically a pedestal. Easier on the back but still a tedious/messy process.

Go to a car wash and use the handheld spray gun.

Damn. I don’t clean mine until my system pressure starts raising, which is usually 4-6 months.

I have pavers around my pool and even though its inside a pool cage, the rain washes shite in the pool. I also have a bunch of potted trees and plants around the pool that add to the mess. I also keep my pool very clean. I am somewhat obsessed with that. We use the pool and/or spa daily most of the year

Every month, my filter has sand in it that needs cleaning out so Im sticking with once a month

I ditched my cartridge filters and went with a sand filter 5 years ago. Game changer. I backwash the filter once a week or so, depending. Takes 5 minutes max.
I haven’t noticed a difference in pool water quality.
