Couple buddies have Blackstones and I like the idea of a grill and griddle. Wondering if I can get away with a griddle sheet you can put on top of the grill grates. I understand it wouldn’t be as effective as a Blackstone, but it would save space. Anyone tried it?

It's called a cast iron skillet :)

Lodge has a nice carbon steel griddle here.

I'm one of those guys that hasn't used a grill for over a decade, just griddles or cast iron on a grill. I don't see the purpose of grates.

Beware ice makers. To avoid giving everyone Legionnaire's disease, you need to drain it and dry it after every use. Some people can be fastidious about it, but most can't.

Grill
Side burners
Sink with hot & cold
Trash
Cabinet doors for access under everything with hanging racks for utensils, grill brushes, etc.

Egg/smoker if you do it a lot

A drop-in griddle does pizza, breakfast and blackening.

Maybe a double or triple drawer if you have that much stuff.

Freezer/fridge if you're dedicated to not going back inside

Pizza ovens are a waste of space. Use the space for more countertop.

Not appliances but worth heavy consideration:
-Big exhaust fan if you have a roof
-Lighting

I have all Blaze equipment
Griddle
32” grill
Double burner
Refrigerator
2 double drawer access door
Single access door
Sink
Garbage
Just praying everything lines up when I put everything in. Had to move my sink to go around my garbage can so hoping plumber can pipe everything.

In my outdoor kitchen, I wash my dishes, utensils, etc. outside. Put them away when I'm done. I don't drag dirty stuff back inside, clean them, then bring them back outside. To answer OP's question, I have: 40" natural gas grill Dual side burner Kamado Joe station Under-counter kegerator with dual tap tower Three drawer cabinet Pull out trashcan Under-counter refrigerator Full-size sink

I have a similar setup and wouldn’t do the kegerator again.

I have a grill, side burner, and sink. All work really well. As mentioned earlier-the only thing I am missing is a fan to blow out the smoke. Will have an electrician come over this fall and install receptacle so I can buy an oscillating fan to place in the corner. That’s my only complaint.

Might get some heat for this but I’ve been thinking about one for the future

I have the “little griddle” insert from bbq guys on my blaze grill. It covers 3 of the 5 burners and does a good job for burgers/bacon and small cooking jobs. However, hibachi is a mess on it. Just not enough space. I usually wind up getting rice all over the place. Admittedly, I’m no pro chef either. Lol

Any particular reason why you wouldn’t do it again?

I feel the beer ends up going bad before I drink it at all.

It’s easier to grab a 12 pack or case at the store when I’m already there.

Running out of CO2 and having to fill it up is just another place I have to go by. I have a back up bottle which makes it easier but it’s still something I have to remember to do.

Cost savings really isn’t that much if anything when you factor in cost of CO2 and having the $50 keg deposit. This is on a 1/6th size and I have two.

People end up drinking a lot of free beer on me??.

Sometimes finding the beer you want is not easy in the size keg you want. This may be avoidable but I usually am trying to get something last minute for the regular beer and plan ahead for the craft.

Plus the initial cost of mine was $2500 to $3000 and that’s a lot of beer you can buy by the case.

Some good advice in here from all the posters... I'm doing a small one now as an add on by the patio leading to the new pool.. built in Blaze natural gas grill with double door storage below. A 30 inch wide prep counter with 3 drawer storage below. And a built in high btu restaurant stock pot burner for crawfish boiling, griddle, or for my chinese wok. No sink or fridge... A sink would be nice but if you are not set up for it already, plumbing is a real pain to add and the value relative is just not there.

I hear you. I’m doing this on a existing slab that isn’t near any house plumbing so I’m not sure what the solution is yet. I can figure out how to tie in gas and electrical lines, but the plumbing is going to be difficult. I’m pretty set on a sink though.

Sink? Do you really want to wash dishes outside? Unless cleaning fish or something, never understood the reason for this.

Use my sink multiple times a day while outside. Wash hands, clean up cooking utensils. Or just have a place to rinse rags and such from the weekly cleanup of the area.

The drawers are a waste for me, nothing of use can be stored in as they either rust or just get dirty AF

Outside fridge is great, if you dont have one handy already.

I have a Blaze grill and always thought the egg dock was a waste, but wish I had one.

Look into an exhaust fan if you are in a three walled area. You can smoke yourself out.

Fans, have a nice place for fans. The is La and if you want to gain any time after mid June you need them

Invest in a sound system, you will use it constantly. Wire in your TV if you have one, much better than wireless connection.

Wood burning fireplace is awesome.

Get a great burner area, it will be plenty for family fish frying, jambalaya and gumbo...etc. And you will have a sink nearby for cleanup.

Lastly, electrical outlets around the cooking area. Rice pots, crock pots, and lamps need plug ins.

In my opinion a much better option. Or I just bring out my electric one and plug in on counter.

It’s not about washing dishes. When you come back in from peeing in the yard you will need to wash your hands. Especially if cooking

Only time I’ve seen it done right was when the guy had what seemed like overkill ventilation hoods put in. Those are absolute musts in that situation.

Same. It would be neat to have but wouldn’t get used enough to justify it. I’d rather get something like an old school Coke cooler to keep beers in.

+1
I’ve got a dual zone receiver for my surround sound inside and separate zone for the outside so I can co tell them independently. I connect to my phone using Wi-Fi and play what I want and don’t need to be within Bluetooth range. It’s great.

A sink is a must IMO. I use it way more than I thought I would. Even when I’m not cooking. It reduces a lot of in and out traffic from the house which is huge on summer days.
