Oh NO! Not me- gotta get a new HVAC unit in the upcoming weeks

My old Rheem unit held out 16 years, but leaking coils are getting too expensive to keep adding R410A every month, and a motor burn out is sure to happen soon. Any recent recommendations on brand and installer for a 3 ton unit with soft start and surge protector added? I know One Hour AC gets a bad rap for cost, and I get that, but they do quality work (or at least my service tech has been great for the past 10 years).

SEC was recommended here for a replacement at my daughter’s condo in BR. I couldn’t be happier with cost, professional and install. If he was closer to where I live I would use him for my house.

I just had my old 3 ton Rheem replaced. Evap coil was leaking. I got a new Rheem 3 ton dual stage heat pump with the new R454B refrigerant, inside and outside units installed for $6500. I'm in MS but that gives you an idea on cost.
It was gonna cost over 2k to replace the coil on my unit so I bit the bullet and got a new system. Mine was about 12 years old.

Damn, how did you get such a low price? I paid 6k back in 2009 for a 3 ton Rheem

Did it two years ago. Went from 4 ton to 5, went up on seer rating, my electric bills have gone down 20-25%.
Hated paying for it, so glad I did.
Baton Rouge.. was about 14k.

I don't know for sure. The guy I use is a 2 man outfit so low overhead. He does good work. I've been using him for years. I paid $3600 for the older 3 ton Rheem back in 2014...same guy.

Want to tell where you are located, I assume BR as you mentioned one-hour air, but there might be one-hour air companies across the Gulf South.

May be pricier up front but I've hear really strong comments from my A/C guy about Bosch. Over time the efficiency makes up for the up front spendier price. I can give you solid recommendation in CenLA.

They purposely price coils expensive so you go ahead and get a whole unit. It’s BS.
Coils should cost much less then manufacturers charge.

An AC tech I spoke to recently said electricians will often install this after the fact for much cheaper than what the AC companies will charge for it up front. I don't know if it's true, but it's what he said. Call some electricians and ask them.

When I replace I’m going to ask for a brand with better coils if such a thing. Not aluminum.
