Needing a new outdoor hose that can be used for multiple uses. Have been thinking about flexible hoses. Dont have any experience with these and would like to find something that works well that could either be bought off of Amazon or a big box store. TIA

Like squirting water?

Go to Home Depot and get the grey or black Goodyear hose. The one that says it doesn't kink kinks very easily, and since it's got aluminum fittings, it'll get stuck to the spigot

Look for the Continental commercial black rubber garden hoses. Stay away from the expanding hoses and the crappy "kink free: hoses at Lowes and Home Depot. Even the "heavy duty" farm and ranch hoses they sell are junk. The best thing you can get for any garden hose is an enclosed hose reel, keep them stored and out of direct sunlight and even cheap hoses will last years.

Virtually every hose kinks and won't last as long as you want it to.
Like the poster above said about keeping it out of the sun and rolled up is good advice.

I doubt they are still the same but my 75' Craftsman black rubber garden hose is well over 20 years old, it's outlasted several box hose reels. They were made by Goodyear back then though. It will kink if you look at it the wrong way but it's extremely flexible, never had a burst spot, and shows no sign of dry rot.

I've got a pair of thick black hoses that are coming up on 15 years. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to hoses.

Yeah - I bought the “heavy duty” ones from Home Depot and they are the worst. They were basically the most expensive hoses on the shelf so I bought them because I know you get what you pay for most of the time. This wasn’t the case with these hoses.

Order from these guys. Everything they sell is extreme duty. I have four hose reels, several hoses, valves and nozzles from them. As my big box stuff breaks I order replacements from here.

DOnt go cheap and nothing less than 5/8 preferably 3/4”. A good 3/4” 50’ hose is going to cost $75 plus. I have a couple continental commercial I bought 20 years ago and they are still going strong.

I got a couple of those 4-5 years ago and they have lasted me fairly well. Maybe I just got lucky.

I just buy the black pocket hose from Home Depot and when it busts in 6-12 months...I bring it back and get a brand new replacement for free, then repeat. I absolutely hate having to roll up a long hose...such a PITA. The convenience of these "shrinking hoses" are worth making a trip to the store and get a free replacement once a year. They're just a breeze to store once you use them and much easier to move around.

no, dont do it, they are all trash

they work great, for a while

they are very convenient, for as long as they last

trouble is they all use soft surgical flex tubing inside them and just like with any rubber band, it only has a finite number of times it stretches and recoils before the rubber gets fatigued and then pops

just look int some nice hose caddy that you can easily roll back up when you are done and keeping it out of the sun can double its lifespan

Get one that's all rubber. They'll last a long time.

I can probably help here...I've been a big box buyer in L&G for several years...at Lowes (sorry HD fans)

"Flexible hoses" - the best you can buy for durability is the Zero G hose. Teknor Apex created this hose after the cheap pocket hoses failed to deliver on durability. The return rate on those cheap flexible hoses are ~40%. They don't kink but they will burst.

"Contractor hoses" - don't fall for the marketing gimmicks here...you get what you pay for...If you want a solid contractor hose...I was personally involved with the design of the Neverkink Contractor Hose. Its 75ft and price per foot the most expensive hose, but this was built for the contractor. Its red in color for safety reasons.

"Rubber hoses" - these are your most durable hoses b/c they are just a solid run of rubber. These are your old time traditional hoses. They haven't been as popular b/c people want light weight hoses and the rubber hoses are heavy. Lowes will be relaunching the old Craftsman Rubber hose this year - Black and Red (red for commercial hot water use)

"Vinyl hoses" - again here, you get what you pay for. Neverkink (made by Teknor Apex) has a few versions. At Lowe's you can get either the Neverkink regular hoses (black with a yellow stripe) or the Neverkink Max (another hose I worked on creating). The difference Is the Max has additional support for non-kinking.

Feel free to ask me any other questions on hoses...I can certainly help...

I’ve been pretty happy with the Flexzilla hose. The hose fittings are sturdy.

Flexzilla

Not 100% kink free as the manufacturer claims but pretty close. Nothing ticks me off more than a water hose that continually kinks.

Remains very pliable in cold weather. Have had mine a few years and held up well. Doesn’t keep its bright lime green color if kept outside year round like I do. Doesn’t fade just seems retain dirt. Maybe it can be cleaned but I haven’t tried.

Purchased on Amazon. Looks like Tractor Supply might carry them. Not seen them at the box stores.

I bought this 130 ft hose. 100 feet wasn’t long enough. Hose seems solid and with a “fireman nozzle” I feel I am good to go 10 years with them

I picked up two of these rubber hoses last year from Stines/Ace.

They are not real thick or heavy and have nice end pieces. I am thinking about picking up a couple of more.
