I'm in the same boat to build a privacy fence and my landscaper suggested elaeagnus shrubs. He told me they grow fast and are pretty hardy.

Privets. We just planted a row between our pool and neighbor.

Seriously thinking about going with this. Most nursery farms I speak with recommend this

Clumping bamboo. There's a bunch of varieties that will work. People who don't know much about it will poopoo on the idea but some of them are legit. Graceful bamboo works really well I'll look up a link in a minute.

We have red tipped photinias and while I would rather have privacy fence they do a good job for privacy. My advice is to keep them pruned well or they get unruly

Ligustrum has been used for decades for privacy along fences.

I have used a row of Nellie Steven’s hollies to form a screen. I planted in 2013 about 10 feet apart. Most were 3 gallon although I did find some much larger ones for a portion of the row. Within 5 years they provided a decent screen and the smaller ones caught up to the larger ones during that time frame. Now, they are each over 10 feet high and there is no space between them. For the first several years, I ran drip irrigation until I felt they were established and could survive without supplemental watering. I have lost two of them to some sort of problem. Those dropped all their leaves and died. I had to replant with the largest I could find. They are filling in currently. This was in north Louisiana.

I’ve had these before. They fit the bill, but almost grow too fast.

I’ve also had tea (sweet) olives, and I’m thinking that this is what I may go with. Do they tolerate direct sun all day pretty well? My previous ones had plenty of shade time.
