Not ideal but should still be effective. Might have some skips or weak spots if there are areas where water was flowing.

I don't think there's any actual water flow. I just went out And did a little walk around. I think these granulars are heavier than I thought.

If it’s just puddled you’ll be fine.

The crabgrass in yard (South Louisiana) has just started appearing in the last few days. I got some Barricade last week before the crabgrass popped up, but it’s been raining all week so I wasn’t able to put it down yet.

Is there any benefit to using Barricade at this point? Or is it too late to worry with?

Dimension has some post-emergent control. Get some of that instead of prodiamine

Though I can’t say for sure either, i thought I’d do a little a little internet check, as I’m sure others might have the same question, and I found this article on the subject from NC State University. LINK. Did you use prodiamine, as it seems to have to have the highest affinity for binding with soil, and Dimension is in the middle of the pack.

However, if I was to take an educated guess based on the info in this article, the fact that you watered it in on Fri, after application, and Sat before this heavy rain, you likely got good binding of the pre-emergent with soil prior to the heavy rain and you very likely will be fine, particularly if you used prodiamine. You could also go get a little rye grass seed, maybe even something like turnip or radish seeds, spread it in a few small areas in the lawn to see if germinates, and if not, your good.

I agree, Dimension pre-emergent offers some post-emergent control of young crabgrass up to the 3-leaf stage. Purchase that and apply it ASAP, and save the Barricade and apply this fall for winter weeds. Or even in May if you want a 12-month pre-emergent weed barrier.

If you have Centipede, and any crabgrass escapes Dimension treatment, you can use sethoxydim to kill it.

Used Hi-yield Turf & Grass w/ Dimension. I think it's ok. Went out to the flooded area.

Just so you know, the granules are just a physical carrier and the active ingredient in Dimension, dithopyr, is sprayed, mixed onto the carrier. I’m not sure what carrier Fertilome uses, often its calcium carbonate type mineral carrier, but not always, nor do I know if the herbicide is released all at once upon water activation or released over time. They don’t provide that information on the label.

Let us know your weed situation in several months in the flooded area, compared to past years, then we’ll all know, but I suspect it going to be OK.

Right on. Thanks for the help. I'm ready for this Zoysia to start growing so I can work on these low spots.

Thanks guys!

I’m new to the pre-emergent world and this thread has been extremely helpful

Put down barricade pre-emergent Saturday and then went about bought some fertilome weed out for crabgrass and broadleaf weeds. I plan on spraying that on the entire yard Saturday or Sunday.

With fertilome or any weed killer spray, is there a temperature where it's too cold to spray and will reduce the effectiveness? The only thing I can find during my quick glances have been where the product says don't spray if hotter than 85-90 degrees.

Under 60 degrees in my opinion. It doesn't necessarily have to be above 60 when you spray, but needs to get there at some point during the next day or two.

This isn't to say the herbicide won't work, it will just be very slow.

Can someone school me in this stuff? Just bought a house and the yard is full of clover, crabgrass and various other weeds. Will pre emergent get rid of this stuff or do I need more serious help? TIA

Pre-emergent herbicides kill many. not all, weed seeds when they germinate - significant reducing annual weed loads. Usually applied in late winter for spring and summer weeds, and in early fall for winter weeds. They are highly recommended and now is time to make a spring application. Pre-emergent will not kill weeds you presently see in your lawn.

For the weeds you are seeing in your lawn now, you will need to apply selective post-emergent herbicide(s). The choice of post-emergent herbicide(s), depends on what type of lawn grass you have.

What type of lawn grass do you have?

Sorry if this has already been asked but for the winter weed cocktail how long does it need to dry before rainfall?

Usually many herbicides will become “rainproof” within 45 to an hour depending on heat and humidity, but Weed-Free-Zone says several hours on its label, and atrazine 1 to 2 hours, so you should be fine if you have no rainfall within several hours of spraying.
