I suck at taking care of my lawn. No matter what I do nothing turns out good. I've put down pre and post emergent, atrazine, 2D4D, weed free zone, bags of weed and feed, bags of Milo, put down Talstar for bugs, etc. and I still have a shite ton of weeds and my grass look like crap.

Over the past three years, I've spent all kinds of money trying to get my grass in better shape and I'm all out of ideas at this point. So damn frustrating.

I guess I just needed to get that off my chest. My wife didn't want to listen to me bitch

The audacity of some of these weeds just blows my mind. Like, look here you little bitch, did you just see what all I did over the last month and you’re gonna just pop your little arse up right in the middle of my lawn? No sir.

A weed free lawn is an impossible rabbit hole. And I’m deep into that sumbitch.

I do pretty well, my front yard is semi excellent. But my female lab keeps burning holes into the back lawn. I don’t know what to do anymore. I try to hose it down. The tablets never did anything to change her urine. I’m to the point that I wish she would just start pissing in the flower bed at this point and maybe killing weeds in the process.

I’m considering installing turf in 2022 depending on how this year goes.

Have you done any soil samples at your local extension office? I'm in the middle of doing that myself with my lawn. Turns out it needed a ton of lime.

This is why I like Bermuda.

Celsius, nitrogen, cut and it looks great.

I had tons of problems and then got fed up and tore it all out and resodded.

Went from centipede to st aug and cut it a little higher than before, mines super green and lush and completely free of weeds.

Just start scraping!

That may be your problem. Centipede is the lazy man's grass. It really likes to be left alone. It is also a slow grower and takes a while to recover from any damage.

I had centipede when I lived in Florida. I fertilized it once before I really knew about that type and it was never the same. I'll never have centipede again.

once you mow them down the weeds are just as green as the grass.
it’s live and let live with the weeds at my place

MSMA and fertilizer. Punch it and sand it in high summer. Iron supplement in October.

Your yard will look like a golf course

1000% on board with this. Problem is I say it every year and fall and spring rolls around and I "forget" that I quit. No matter what I do I'll never turn this lawn around because its too uneven. There are low spot and shady spots that will never grow grass but boy do the weeds thrive. I've had enough. If I drink more I won't care as much.

There’s your problem….2-4-d, weed and feed, milo

All bad options.

How much nitrogen fertilizer are you applying per 1k sq feet each year?

This is why I promote natural areas in yards with trees. Less grass to worry about.

I finally hired a weed and feed company and complain to them. Yeah it's more expensive, but I have someone to blame.

Have emerald zoysia in the front and still have some weeds especially early summer. Usually wins out completely about August then goes dormant again within a month. Just to start the cycle again the following year

Try something different.

I have found using less chemicals and promoting healthy grass works best for me. I use natural, slow release fertilizers, water my yard when needed and mow every 3-4 days. I pull weeds by hand since I don't have many. If you don't want to pull weeds by hand then mix up a hand spray bottle and spot spray where needed.

Many of the chemicals and overuse of synthetic fertilizers really take a beating on the microbial activity in the soil. Many of the pre-M will also slow/prevent turf grasses from being able to spread, fill-in and thicken up. As the grass gets healthy the weeds will go down naturally.

EDIT: Never mind. I see you have centipede.

The urine could be doing 1 of 2 things to harm your grass:

1) Excess nitrogen. If this is the case then yeah, all you can really do is water the crap out of the grass to keep the nitrogen from burning the grass

2) Salts. If the salt level in the urine is harming the grass you can add gypsum and it will restore the grass health making it green again.
