House With No gutters

Just moved into a house in North LA. House is in some woods and has no gutters, because they’d probably never stay clean. Looking around the neighborhood only one or two houses do. This is a foreign concept to me.
House has a trench forming around the roofline from rain falling off the roof. Also turning the brick green from splashing. What’s the best way to correct this and help mitigate it going forward?

Add gutters. They make covers for them to keep debris out.

Cost savings for the home builder.

Install gutters with leaf guards.

I get this with new construction. However, this neighborhood went up in the 70’s. I find it strange that in 50 years no one in the neighborhood (or surrounding area for that matter) had the bright idea to slap some gutters on their house. I figured they might know something I don’t.
If that’s the only option, that’s likely the direction I’ll go.

Install a rock border to cover the splash zone

Hm, yeah that is odd.
ETA: My house was built in 2017 and I had the same issue. No gutters, trenching, mud always up against the house. Had gutters installed and it solved all of that. Definitely worth it.

I've never owned a house with gutters and don't feel the need for them. If you keep your flowerbeds freshly mulched, there shouldn't be a trench.

Gutters
Lowe's has cheap gutter guards that do the job and very easy to install. More durable ones will be a tad more expensive but may be the better value.

Gutters or well maintained turf grass that will keep the soil in place and prevent the trench forming.

I bought a relatively new house without gutters 1986 in Baton Rouge. The yard drains very well except next to the drive. Five years ago, I added gutters w/ spouts into buried drain line only on that wet side. The rest of the house still doing fine without gutters.
Here some houses built in the 1980's have an exaggerated roof overhang...soffits almost 3' wide. The idea is to let the gutter-less roof drain far from the wall and to shade the wall like a big hat.

quote:Ive had both, not a fan of the look of gutters, currently do not have, but considering in a couple areas. Have no problem with any splashing or trench, plenty of rock around the back of the beds for the water to fall on, or plenty of grass where there is no bed.

Mainly want a couple areas to prevent water from dripping down my neck when raining and I have to go out in yard. But damn the copper ones are pricey and the look like copper ones are kinda cheesy looking.

Anyone know roughly how much per lf gutter cost installed?

I had it done for $10 per linear foot, which included the downspouts about 2 years ago.

Lake Charles or farther north? I'm a contractor up in the Shreveport/Bossier area and do seamless gutters every day.
I could give you a quote. Or if you're further south than we travel you could email me your address and I could possibly do a quote from ariel images and let you know what a fair price would be if you do get quotes.

This. You can do this yourself as project that will take up a few weekends and probably save thousands of dollars by not installing gutters with leaf guards.

I have gutters with leaf guards.
They still get clogged from time to time.
Gutters are a pain in the arse if you have a bunch of trees.
I'd rather deal with the ground issues of splashing and trenching than gutter issues with leaves.

I’ve got some roof repairs scheduled soon and I am having them remove the gutters. Complete PIA with all my trees and they let the water back up under the roof sheets

I’m team no gutters. Have drip edge shingles and rock border around house. No flooding/pooling
