House gutters - two radically different estimates

I got two estimates to have gutters installed. One from a well-reviewed local place and another from a national brand name. The national brand was 3x as expensive as the local.

How is that even possible? What am I missing?

The national brand was offering you a chance to help pay for their bloated advertising budget.

Also, they are a larger company, so the admin and upper management positions need to be paid more than their counterparts at the mom and pop. Their salesman will tell you that the mom and pop does a bad job and uses inferior materials.

Otherwise known as overhead.

But, you as the customer should NOT be paying for that. Fucm.

Go with the local people. National brands are just ripping people off. I had something similar happen with getting some paint/dents fixed on my truck not too long ago. Local guy did it for half the price and did an excellent job.

I can’t imagine there’s been a time when more business on average was done with bloated pricing. This is very normal OP, tons of businesses are more than happy to throw out ridiculous quotes and work less until someone takes one. If it works it works.

I helped a friend get some quotes for a minor remodel for an insurance repair and I thought it would be $6000-8000. My guy quoted $10,000, one person $15,000, and one $24,000.

ETA: lol, my friend chose the $15,000 option because it was ‘better known’

House gutters -
buy yourself a ladder so you can clean the gutters weekly. I hauled my gutters to the scrap yard.

Lemoine's Seamless Gutters
Avoyelles Parish

He did roughly 125' of black gutters with seven downspouts for $1,600.

They need to be aware of where they are and reduce that overhead. Not charge 3x as much

If you are in BR or surrounding areas I highly recommend TIMCO LLC.

As long as they're running the gutters at your house and not buying pre-fabbed sections at the big box store, there's going to be no difference in materials. They buy the metal on a roll and run it through the same machine. It's been beat to death in the thread that the national company has overhead. And they'll be slower to respond to any issues that come up. Go with the local company.

generally for residential I completely agree. I just replaced my metal roof and I was going to have them not install new gutters, the old narrow ones I had just filled up with leaves and was rotting my fascia. The roofer I used is a commercial roofer though and we decided to put back 8” 26 ga metal building gutters and downspouts, and let me say they are awesome. Not exactly the prettiest thing but they match the roof and they move some water.

I’m going to set up catch barrels for the steep pitch area and use it for irrigation

This. Just like ADT with alarm monitoring.

I mean LeafGuard gutter guards charge more for just their gutter guards than we do for gutters and guards

It blows my mind how they even get business. They basically have to get people that don't get any other estimates and just assume that is the going rate.

Saw them charge $15 a LF for just their guards. We are around $14 a LF for 6" seamless k-syle gutters with a gutter guard that is almost exactly the same as the one LeafGuard uses.

Almost identical to what we would be up here in North LA assuming those were 8 ft. downspouts and not part of the 125 ft. Very competitive price.
