My 5 ton and 3.5 ton units are reaching the end of their useful life. Got my first quote and almost fell of my chair. Owner of the company took the fear of God approach and said prices are going up again August 1st and likely 1-2 more times before the end of the year.

Anyone got any recent quotes for replacement? Reviewed the earlier threads from 2020 and price as i was quoted was double. I know there have certainly been price increases but not to this extent.

Sounds about right. Of all things inflation/supply chain is hitting hard, HVAC is one of the worst.

What were your quotes? Just curious as I also have a 5 and 3.5 ton.

In process for sure. This guy was my GC's recommendation. We completed a substantial remodel a few years ago.

This is just replacing the indoor and outdoor units, correct? i.e. no new ductwork, etc.

I was quoted around $12.5k for a 3.5ton plus some additional ductwork on a house I was looking to purchase. Tropical AC and Heat. Have used him for regular servicing with no issues.

Am in the middle of a replacement..SEER 16 2.5 ton outside unit installed $4700 ish (American Standard Brand)

3 weeks later inside unit is being replaced, 4600 ish, but some construction work will have to be done, new air handler/evap/heater unit is 2 inches bigger than the existing opening(closet mount). not sure of brand..guessing American Std as well

Failed outside unit was 20 years old, inside unit was 14 years old. Both were old freon. Inside unit was newer and could also run on the new freon, with the changing of one piece part.

Not the cheapest, but the best HVAC guys I’ve ever had were the ones I used when I lived in New Orleans.

A&R. 504-887-1416.

I changed two 4 ton units between 2020 and 2021. Each was around $7k.

I’ve used Tyler and Taylor and Munster Mechanical.

I've been feeling the same way. Are they gonna finance this shite for 5 years for some people? Obviously some will have to go without central AC.

Equipment prices are not as crazy as contractors would lead you to believe.

5 ton HP and air handler costs approx $3,500 for 14 seer. Add material and labor plus margin. Main factor is how much labor your system will take to replace. Lots of older systems crammed in tiny closets with tiny returns etc.
