I got a lab and a pit bull and they both have roam of 15 acres and a 2 acre pond. The lab stays ok smell wise but the pit bull gets rank fast. The lab has much longer hair. The pit bull short hair. Both are great sweet but active farm dogs that are outside a lot. Anyone have any recs on a cheap long lasting good deodorizing dog shampoo?

Some dogs just have bad odor naturally, unfortunately.

I have a buddy with a bloodhound that smells awful and they have tried everything.

We have doodles that like to roll around in nasty stuff on our property. We have had really good results with the probiotic dog sprays. Like this one :

Just spray it on and rub it in.

I had a couple pits a lifetime ago that I'd take out to the woods to run around and burn off some energy. One day they were nowhere to be found and it took me a good hour to get them called back.

The female was none the worse for wear, but the male reeked of death. He apparently found something dead and rolled in it and here I was 10 miles from home and my vehicle at the time was an old Ford Country Squire station wagon.

I had to roll all the windows down, including the one on the tailgate and drive back to the house in low 30 degree weather with that stench.

I think I wound up washing him 3-4 times using dish soap and Pine Sol mix to get the stink off him before it was gone. Never ventured to those woods again.

A soaking in "nature's miracle" pet enzyme cleaner works awesome for funky blankets and towels.

Pine Sol

Not knocking on you, just a heads up for others reading this.

Cleaners with 'Sol' in the name are toxic to dogs.

I wonder how this stacks up next to dog colognes like the Chi brand they sell at Petsmart. I have a German Shepherd mix that sheds like a Wookiee during the summer, and will start to stink between baths. I brush her and de-shed her weekly, then spray her down with the Chi cologne. But the smell doesn't last long at all. Like she'll start to smell again the next day.

Thats the point of the probiotic stuff. Eat the smell away, don't just mask it--though the scents are pleasant and last a few days.

We've only tried the puppy one and the coconut one. Puppy is just a fresh scent, the coconut one was a bit strong. That's all they had at first, but I see now they have some "manlier" scents. No matter, our dogs are female doodles so smelling like a Gulf shores trailer park was no biggie lol.

I got the Honeysuckle scent.

I used the Furminator on her Saturday and sprayed her down.

I don't know how its possible for her to hold so much loose fur.

Stuff works pretty good. The scent stayed on her for a little over a day, but the stink is gone. We got rained on a little while walking, and she didn't have the overwhelming wet dog smell.

Agreed….i love hounds of all kinds, but I have never seen a hound of any kind that didn’t smell like complete arse even after you had just finished bathing them. I also think it has a lot to do with what you feed them.
