I fill a pot of water, boil it & dump it down sinks if that’s where they’re coming from
Also make sure to take garbage out every night, even if it’s not full

I’ve always had luck with the following for fruit flies:

Take a small cup and fill it with water
Cut a piece of lemon and put it in the cup
Cover the cup with Saran Wrap
Poke a few holes in the top of the wrap

The flies will get in there but usually can’t get out and will eventually drown.

As other posted said make sure you keeping a clean house.

These are always called fruit flies, but they are actually and most likely sewer flies. They come in from your sinks. Give them a good cleaning, try pouring Clorox in the drain.

before you go to bed each night pour an ounce of bleach into anything with a drain, and let it sit overnight.

any Gnats or Fruit Flys in the house will be getting their water from the drains and the bleach kills them as well as their eggs they lay in the drain pipes

the only downside is it will smell like chlorox a little bit in each room

dont forget the tub/shower drain as well, anything open to the air with water in it

If it's the fruit fly types, not coming from drains, I've popped a few with this method:

In a small bowl, mix a half cup of warm water plus two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon of sugar, and about six drops of liquid dish soap (Dawn). Gnats will be lured in by the sugary mixture, but once they dip in for a drink, the sticky dish soap will trap them.

A year or two back, they were everywhere around here and got in the house. I put out a few cereal bowls of this concoction and killed several.

Apple Cider Vinegar, in a glass, put Saran Wrap over the top. Punch about 5 holes in the top.

I never see any gnats unless I have bananas ripening in the house. They smell them a mile away. Eat them quickly.

Believe it or not, a little left over wine in a glass does a decent job.

We had an infestation a couple months ago. My wife put out shallow bowls of apple cider vinegar which caught a few. One night I left a small amount of beer in a glass when I went to bed. Woke up to it full of dead fruit flies. So we put out 3 or 4 glasses with a small amount of beer and refreshed it every couple of days. That helped quite a bit. Took a week but we got rid of them.

Just use dawn down your sinks. Check if any food is out that they can feed on. Think about their breeding areas as they like moist environments with plenty of food. I do a lot at work to keep them away from my bar. One major home run was taking bar mats and putting them in the cooler after cleaning. If any food and water was left in them (they are tough to clean well) then a prime spot for breeding was created. See if you have anything like that going on.

This - only place a few drops of Dawn dish detergent in the apple cider (breaks the surface tension so they sink to the bottom) - I forgo the Saran Wrap - In my opinion it doesn’t really make any difference once you put the Dawn in the cider.
