As the title says...got my wife a poorly planned planter that only gets maybe an hour or 2 of sun then dapped shade rest of the day.... looking for visually appealing suggestions she can plant now. Tia

Depends on the length of freezes you experience and your willingness to cover the plants.
A couple flowering and non flowering plants come to mind…
Philodendron: (Rojo Philodendron is awesome)
Gardenia (flower)
Hydrangea (flower)
Salvia (flower)
Various forms of Iris (flower)
Rhododendron (flower)
Cardboard Palm
Azalea (flower)

caladiums are my go-to shade pant. Have to dig them in the Fall if you want to re-plant in the summer.
Aspidistra is also a great shade perennial if you just need big green leaves.

Begonias are good option to consider - lots of cultivars (varieties). Take a look at Dragon Wing Begonias for shade-partial shade for planters. I’ve had good success with them in planters in fairly heavy shade. They are annuals in Z8 & Z9 so freezing weather does kill them, particularly in raised container-planters.
