How is this possible without jabbing a hole in it or taking it off?
Toyota has a plastic piece you can poke into the filter to drain it

I’ve changed my oil on our vehicles for years. I have only ever changed the filter every other change.

Why are you assuming someone didn't torque the shite out of it previously?
Why did you let someone use a wrench to tighten the oil filter on your car?
Be a man, buy some of those $4/12pr grippy gloves they have by the register at autozone, and get the filter off.

Why don't auto manufacturers mount oil filters with the port down, instead of level or port up?
If they did this then no oil would spill upon removing the old filter.

My favorite tool to use is a small strap wrench. I think I have a Walmart brand.

I've done the same thing. The pan is usually lower than the filter so you're not gonna lose all of the oil. Just top it off after changing the filter.

Filters are cheap, change the filter. Top it off.
As for filters, a engine with a bad location filter. Use a filter cap, it fits over the filter, making it easy for removal. Just find out the filter it fits, buy a few filters as needed, keep them on hand.
I like my new truck, 10,000 between oil changes.

Because I took it to a oil change place out of convenience.

Nobody else has mentioned this so here it is. When you take off the old filter, make sure the rubber gasket on the filter is not stuck to the engine block.
I had this happen to me once and missed it. I put on the new filter, filled the engine with fresh oil and cranked it up to make sure it wouldn't leak and saw oil spewing all over under the car.
Shut down the engine and pulled the filter and saw where the old gasket was still stuck to the block. Removed it, put the new filter back on, topped off the oil and was good to go-------------then had to clean up about 1 qt. of oil that blew out all over the driveway.

When I was a young lad, I took my first car to an oil change place in Shreveport that was offering an $8.88 oil change. 6 months later I go to change it myself and crumpled the filter with a wrench and could not get it off.
So I put the old oil back in the car and brought it back to the same place. When it was done, the mechanic asked who put the damn filter back on so tight, and I told him "you did."
I know not much help, but I thought it was a CSB.

Well, in the future, if you buy genuine toyota filters the gasket should be pregreased so no need to stick your finger in oil and wipe it.

I couldn't find my 1/2" socket wrench to turn the tool that fits over the filter to remove it.

When you replace the filter, either now or at the next oil change, don't use a wrench. If you put it on "very" tight by hand, it will be plenty tight. The next time, if you can clean it off and get a good grip on it, maybe using rubber gloves, you won't experience this problem again.

You should be fine, but what year and make vehicle? Some of the newer vehicle’s owners manuals specifically say to only change the filter every other change.

I run my 2017 between 10k-15k between changes too. I do pull some oil around 9k and send it to Blackstone for analysis.

Use a small rubber strap wrench. Wipe the filter and if the wrench slips, wrap a piece of emery paper around the filter then put the wrench over it.
Also make sure the gasket from top of the filter isn't stuck to the block when you've removed the filter..

Yeah it’s cheap and easy so might as well change it.
