electricity is really a bargain if you think about how much an hour your spending. My levelized bill on a 1000sq ft. house is $120 month, so that is $4 a day, so less than 20 cents an hour! The cable, internet from cox is $230 a month and i use that about 4 hours a day. That one really swells my nuts!

Biggest guzzler are the big arse south facing two story windows.

All electric.
Spouse that will run the AC super cold all day long. ( Mind you that in winter, the heat will be set on upwards to 80)

My wife will do the same thing, plus fireplace. It truly baffles me that 70 is OK when it 90 outside but somehow 70 is freezing when it 40 outside.

I’ve been known to come home from work and shut them all off and open a door for a while to cool off the house.

2000 sq ft. Entergy. Last bill $140.

AC made a huge difference for us. We had a 3.5 ton that was struggling and bill was $270 in summer. Now 5 ton. Keep AC on 72 if home, 74 if not. Winter bill usually $80.

I think sometimes my wife is truly cold blooded. Or has some inability to regulate her own body temperature.

We live south of Raleigh and have duke energy, a nuke plant. 3,000 sf house built in 2019. Two units I do vary the temp from 74 to 70 through the day due to a two story. Upstairs cooler at night and downstairs cooler during the day because that is where we usually are. The highest bill I’ve had was $200. We have gas heat, Water heater, and cook top. The gas in the winter is usually no more than $85 per month. This house is well insulated and led lights. I believe the ac units have vfd’s that allow them to run on less amperage if the demands allows.

forgot to update!

Slemco.
S. Lousiana
2300 Sq. Ft.
74 day/69 night

Was $293 last month.

Hoping it goes down since I had a new roof put on at the end of last month and added two whirlybirds.

I feel like the ac unit doesn't run as much as before since then. Guess we'll see.

3200 sq/ft. 2-3 ton 21 SEER variable speed units. I know it’s absurd but we keep it cold. 70 during the day, 65 at night.
House is ICF construction with spray foam roof. The thermal mass of the walls is insane. We pay $200-300 a month in the summer and $60 in the winter. Went up 60 bucks a month when we added a pool last year. 20k gallon pool that runs from 8a-8p at 3200 rpm all summer.

Entergy

$147 (July) can get down to $100 in the cooler months

old house was brand new and the bills were more expensive. they really knew what they were doing when the built houses 100years ago.

I have Demco with levelized billing, and I pay $130 (give or take $5) per month.

House is 2,260 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. Thermostat in summer is set on 71 while awake, and 69 for sleeping. A ceiling fan runs almost continuously in the living room and master bedroom. During cold months, 69 - 70 during the day, and 65 at night.

During flood rebuilding, my contractor used spray foam for all the exterior walls, I paid to have the rafters spray foamed, and we also went with energy efficient windows and doors. All 3 steps have proven beneficial, but I think foaming the rafters made the single biggest difference. Though not pleasant or cool, my attic doesn't get nearly as hot as it did prior to insulating the rafters.

I don't think that is typical.

Whoa. I am 1800 square feet, 1960 brick rancher. We average about 160ish a month in the summer. Keep it at 74 during weekdays and its on 68 every night

ETA: I feel really poor after looking at the sizes of the other homes.
