Trying to gauge if my bill is high or normal.

List Sq. Footage, Energy Company, last month's bill (July 2020) and what you pay on average (since July will probably be higher than normal) .

I'll list mine later, but don't want to sway the responses.

1800-ish sqft. $325 or so.

I don't think that is typical.

1,100sqft total electric
Entergy in south east LA
$186 last month but we were home more than usual and it’s been hotter than normal. Typically it stays around $150 in summer and under $100 in cooler months.

1500 s.f. in Dallas. Paid $120 last month. But we keep the AC on 81 during the day and 78 at night. Humidity is lower here so you can do that.

2,500 sq. ft.

Demco

$185 I think.

Nest thermostats have helped get it down over time.

I haven't been billed for July yet, but June was $185. If I had to guess, I think July will be around $230. Average for the year is about $150. 3,400 sqft

City utilities, pay around 10 cents per kWh.

Yeah I would say that is not typical. Do you know your typical usage and/or rate per kWh? Do you have high usage for some reason? Do you have LED bulbs throughout? If not, you may be able to knock that down by $25+ per month depending on your lighting needs/habits.

3000 sq ft. 2 aging a/c units and a pool pump. Summer months can get up to $475, winter can get as low as $150

Partly because someone is home virtually the whole time. 71-74 on the thermostat and mostly CFL or LEDs. There is a server system running at all times as well which probably doesn't help.

The house being 110 years old and off the ground plus our living indoor/outdoor doesn't either.

The home automation stuff is adding LEDs where they didn't exist before, so whatever savings from CFLs are probably going to disappear. A nest thermostat would laugh at trying to figure out our schedule.

Same here on all counts and we aren't paying nearly as much.

Yeah that probably explains the majority of it.

I would still check your actual meter readings and verify against your bill.

They did the new digital meter last year, supposedly they are fool proof. Per entergy....

I have a heat pump during the winter so my bill is a bit lower. Granted I have gas to the house so who knows if it is really saving over gas.

If I could get to my bill right now I would look at the numbers.

Have you noticed a change in your bills or about the same as before? We all know there isn't a damn thing in this world that is perfect or foolproof.

I had the house for 8 months or so before they changed it, but it was in full renovation so I can't really pull any info from that.

The previous owner hadn't lived in the house for 2 years and there were open holes in the house seals so despite the house being set at 78 the AC ran almost the whole time.

I have looked at whole home monitoring for the automation system. Might be worth it for the entertainment value.

Gotcha. Sorry for all the questions, I was just hoping to find an easy way to save you a cool grand every year.

At the very least you could get a smart thermostat if only for the runtime monitoring to ballpark your cooling costs.

Not at all, I'm open to any ideas.

I don't have a ton of power draws, but I do have a couple that are large. Part of the home automation was to get some things under control that were easy to control.

Unfortunately, right now it has really just led to me having really cool lights and some neat party tricks. Want to incorporate some automatic shades and looking at individual room temperature controls.

I did put in a smart themostat that will hopefully make me more mindful of the A/C. Has only been a couple days so I want to get a baseline. Have been debating the Entergy program to allow them access to the A/C just to see what I can tolerate with temperatures and comfort.
