My son is 13 and has been mowing our yard (with some help when he’s not here) for the last 2 years.
Probably only 10% of the kids in our neighborhood that are if age mow their yard. Nor does the dad, their all done by yard service.

How crazy is this? I pay my son $25 to mow and weed eat. Not a huge yard but not a small one (.4 acres). This week one of the neighbors asked if he’d mow their yard.

I don’t understand why your kid would not mow.

I started my son cutting at 13 also. No other kid in neighborhood cuts their grass.

My son is 11 and he runs the mower, and I do the weedeater. I see more women out cutting their grass more than I see kids doing it.

My kids aren't old enough but they certainly will.

I've said for years I don't understand why teen age kids don't mow more often. People always chime back well you have liability and can pay a pro like $10 more a week to do it. Valid points.

$25/ mow to your own kid is a lot IMO. It used to be part of my chores for my allowance for a measly $5 in the 90s.

My parents used to pay me $20 a mow. Separate from other chores. 98 to 2005

Same

Plus, if I'm paying someone to cut it, I'd rather it go to my kid. Keeps him busy, he can buy his own crap without asking me for $$, etc.

Damn, my dad used to make me cut half an acre with a non-self propelled push mower for free-fifty (riding lawn mower broke and was never replaced).

Cut my own yard up until a few weeks ago, but will definitely have my kiddo cutting when he comes of age. I'll probably pay him though.

I have a big, strapping 17 year old that only gets to weed eat the back yard and my neighbor's yard (elderly lady). These young baws do such a shitty job that I do my own.

most are lazy worthless shits and mommy wont let daddy make them do chores

some are just dads that rather do it themselves because it has to be done in an exact specific way that requires they watch every blade of grass get cut. my dad fell into this category because i cut the front yard first and then the back yard which goes against the laws of the galaxy so i was told to not touch the lawn mower ever again. for equally silly reasons i was barred from weed eater trimming as well. some are just so OCD about their yards they can let anyone else do it.

then there are the ones who are just so stupid you cant trust them to operate power tools or lawn equipt without a trip to the hospital

if kids are physically and mentally able to help with yard work then they should, and not expect to get paid for it, its covered by the rent you dont pay

Yea no shite. I’d laugh at my son if he asked for money to mow our own damn yard.

That is crazy! I’d get grounded if I didn’t mow the yard. And there was definitely no monetary gift involved either

I have a nephew who would hustle lawn jobs and then have his friends do the work for a part of the proceeds.

He now owns his own business and is making bank.

He's a hard working Millenial that makes me proud.
