Stihl Kombi owner checking in. Have the edger and weedeater attachments. Machine is awesome. I use the Stihl synthetic oil and 89 octane (no ethanol) gas. Never done anything to it. Starts first or second pull every time. Highly recommend.

I echo the Stihl recommendations. They work, they last, they are easy to maintain or repair and are worth it for the higher cost of the product.

I can’t go battery route.
I’ve used one before and you have to walk at a snails pace to weed eat

When I weed eat, I want to spend the Keats amount of time possible and that means walking fence line and edging at a good pace, not a turtle pace

I have had my Echo for close to 20 years now. It's been a workhorse. I literally have zero complaints.

Stihl or echo with swappable heads.

I had a old Sybil 90 that I bought that was prob 30 years old, tank sold it for 70$ and bought a new echo i think it was a pas 260? Or something.

Ordered the steel blade head, edger blade head, and string head (bought the speed feed and the two or maybe 3 string precut quick heads, I reinstalled the speed feed much easier)

If u have shrubs you can buy the shrub trimmer also and a blower though I would rather a hand held or backpack blower and a dedicated edger shears.

Echo 210 bought new in 2005. Replaced primer bulb about 5 years ago. Still in use but when she dies I’m going Redmax.

Last year I needed a heavy duty brush cutter for use at my farm.

Looked at both the echo srm-410 and the stihl of comparable engine (don’t remember which though).
I bought the echo, more due to the price than performance. The Stihl was much more than the echo.

The echo has been a beast. I’ve used it a bunch and have cut down hundreds of small trees and briars and brush.
Also have a regular echo weed eater and in several years no issues at all

On the tru fuel. Unless your using the machine commercially. Tru fuel for the win. Price is worth it imo. Tools can sit for a few weeks if weather is bad and tools don't get used.

Power is constant so no mixing problems.

I bought a husqvarna since I had great results with the back pack blower

tru fuel

Use this b/c I'm lazy. Anyway, have Hitachi blower that goes thru pull cords (funny angle for me and wear them out). Anyway, as mentioned I'm lazy and didn't replace it for 2 seasons. Used another blower on an extension cord. When I replaced the hitachi pull cord, it started like normal despite tru fuel despite sitting for 2 years. So, I think it's worth it.

I have owned a Stihl FS 90 for 7 years now and have not had any issues. I recently purchased a RedMax (26cc) on marketplace and it has been great so far, it is very responsive and the top end rpms are great.

The speedfeed heads on the Stihl has horrible reviews.
Speedfeed head on Echo has terrific reviews.

Is that enough of a difference to choose the Echo?
SRM-225? Seems like it's hard to beat that for under $200.
Especially if you only maintain 1-2 acres of residential yard.

Same here.. mine is 8 or 9 years old now. Carb last year for the first time and once it's hot it won't start again. I'm going to bring it to a local guy soon. My biggest beef about the Kombi is that if it acts up then all your other tools are DOA as well.

Echo. Had it so long I can't remember when I bought it. All I've replaced is the plastic pump up bulb.

SRM 225 straight shaft is what you need. I researched a ton before I bought mine a few years ago and it has been great. Speed feed head, easy to add string, etc.

I've heard good things about Maruyama. I think their warranties are legit, too.
