I have the compact white Makita 18v drill and drivers that are about 6 years old. They have been great, but im looking to go cordless on a sawzall, grinder, and circular saw, etc. and trying to decide which brand to get to stick with one type of battery. Should i stick with Makita or look into the dewalts or the HD specials of Ryobi +, or something else?

Look at the entire portfolio of tools offered. I personally use Dewalt and have had nothing but good things to say for the 20/60 volt systems. I like that they offer yard tools as well as shop tools.

I have started building a collection of Ryobi products. Not saying it is the best, but I like that it is affordable and has a wide selection of tools. I have hedge trimmer, chainsaw, trimmer, & blower with zero problems with any of these.

Nice to know. I have a 2 18v batteries, 18v Ryobi circular saw, and drill and looking to add but wanted to know if I needed to switch brands since I am not too far in. Have nothing against the ryobi so far.

I'll second the Ryobi lines.

I have 40V trimmer, blower, and chainsaw. Had one battery fail, but Ryobi replaced for free - no problem

Also, have 18V drill, impact driver and circular saw. The 18V line has a wide variety of tools and gadgets as well.

Other than the one battery, no problems. Usually can get some good deals with HD's Ryobi Days.

I started building out Dewalt. I try and get brushless 20V and have no bad things to say at all. Not sure how legit it is, but they claim to make or at least assemble some of their tools here in the US. I know the other companies have facilities here as well.

I'll second the Dewalt recommendation. I've had nothing but good experience with their tools. I've worn out two of their 18v drills and am on a third. Both the drills that I wore out took loads of abuse used primarily to drill holes in steel and aluminum. The both surprised me in how long they lasted. I have a third 18v drill and a 20v one as well currently undergoing a steady diet of steel and aluminum work.

Because I had the drills, I bought further into their system with corded and cordless tools including an impact driver, reciprocating saw, jig saw, metal-cutting circular saw, chainsaw, hedge trimmer and angle grinders. All are quality tools.

I also inherited a couple of Milwaukee tools that have served well.

I'm going to put a plug in for Dewalt, but for a different reason since I don't own any Dewalts. I actually have Ryobi and Kobalt tools and they are okay.

I ran across an article on Cordless Power Tools to have for an impending Doomsday collapse of society. Fascinating article on how to keep using power tools long after AC power is gone plus some interesting uses like using cordless chainsaws & reciprocating saws to reclaim and repurpose wood and metal from abandoned buildings & homes. But this article also included its recommendation for Dewalt tools and their advantages over other top brands like Milwaukee and Makita. Dewalt has Flexvolt batteries where 20V and 60V batteries are interchangeable plus it has an optional DC charger that uses a cigarette lighter plug that allows you to charge batteries on your way to another worksite, or in Doomsday you can more efficiently charge your Dewalt batteries from a portable solar panel.

I have experience with Dewalt and Milwaukee

The dewalt is superior but more expensive.

I took apart an entire 12x12 dock with a dewalt sawzall and cordless drill without any need to recharge. I was really impressed.
I also have the extension chain saw and really love that thing.

1A Makita or Milwaukee (in alphabetical order)
1B Makita or Milwaukee (in alphabetical order)

3 - everything else
