I don’t like cars parked out front either, but the way the house driveway and yard are set up, you can’t see our cars.
Good deal, all that really matters

I’m gonna just go for it then. I’ll get one for them and wish them luck. They’re cleaning it out now.

The ceiling is exposed beams/no floor. The garage is detached from the house. Well it’s connected by a little walkway porch breezeway thing, but it’s not your typical sheetrock garage attached to a house.

What the hell happened to kids?
They are worried about AC?
Tell them they are lucky you are letting them use the space and to suck it up. Buy them a big floor fan if anything.
I can't believe the OT let you slide on this.

Just make sure to consider the additional volume when sizing the unit. Consider spray foaming the ceiling. Should be cheap and easy once it's cleaned out.

garages are for parking cars. Leaving your car in the driveway or street looks tacky.

There’s a door on the side - a normal 30” door so they can keep the actual giant garage door closed and go in and out from the wood normal door
They will be fine. They can plug in a fan on the opposite end of the unit and it will be at least comfortable enough.

I’m glad it’s getting cleaned out and that it won’t be all spidery when i go in for my gardening supplies.
Hopefully they will “maintain” their new man cave. We have a nice ping pong table and weight set in there that will finally get used regularly, so I’m ok with buying the unit in exchange for them cleaning the space out and maintaining it.
We’ve cleaned it out twice over the last 6 years since we’ve lived here, but we kept using it as a dumping ground during our renovation, after tailgates, after crawfish boils etc.
It’ll be nice to have it STAY orderly

No idea what your available voltage is in there but if all you have is 115v, then get the largest available window unit (maybe 15,000 BTU). If you have 230V, then slap a 24,000 BTU window unit in there and call it a day. Add insulation if that bad boy can't get it done. From what you've posted, there's no insulation anywhere including the ceiling area. You need a large window unit to remove all that heat.

I agree with you, but you can’t see our cars from the street. Our driveway goes waaaaay down along the side of the house into the back. It’s hard to explain.

Except in times of peak heat, you will probably be fine. Always go one size "up" on window units, split units and central units.

Our 17 year old son and his buddies want to make our garage into a ping pong table and weight lifting room. They offered to clean out our garage if we got them a window unit and let them hang out in there.
Any time teenagers want to hang out at your house LET THEM. In your garage, they're off the streets and out of trouble. And if they're ok with being around you and the family at that age, then that's positive.

It's kind of a dilemma. Most houses with decent two-car garages don't look appealing to me. I'm sure you can fit a two-car garage into a 5,000 square foot behemoth mcmansion, but short of that your house basically ends up looking like a mechanic shop.

Do bricks count as insulation?

Oh and There’s no insulation in there. The walls are wood and that peg board stuff.
Ehh. You might have a tough time
Can you add insulation?
Adding insulation to the garage door itself is easy

Which is why i chose a house with a garage way in the back;)
I have to say though, some of the live work play zero lot line neighborhoods made garages look nice.

Yes. One of the boys just said he knows how.

It will work.
If 220volts is feasible get one.
A simple box fan will help move air also.
It will work without insulation. Insulate the door. The walls will be fine.

What he said! If its insulated, should work just fine if you buy one big enough. If its not insulated, I wouldnt bother
