nice overcast day for planting
pulled 2 eggplants (left 2) and the melon vines which were toast. Planted
-carrots
-beets
-radishes
-turnips
-kohlrabi
-celery
-broccoli
-cauliflower
-Brussels sprouts
-lettuce
-herbs and wildflowers
can’t recommend seed tape enough for the root veggies it makes planting a breeze. We have a good variety in the beds now with last weeks seeds already sprouting (greens, kale, chard, daikon, and delicata). Okra should flower any day now and hopefully produce thru the early fall

I added two raised bed gardens and potted some pepper plants to get the beds ready (copied idea from someone else here). I have never used seed tape before. What brand are you using?

I got those from gurneys but most of the heirloom seed places carry it. It’s basically toilet paper quilted over a line of seeds. Unroll it and lay it in the trench then cover. The seeds are pre spaced so hopefully less thinning needed. Mine were 5 dollars for 25’ of tape (100 or so seeds)

it was in the upper 90s all weekend. I looked at the garden from a distance and said that aint happening. Made another ranch water and got in the pool.

I haven’t had rain since Aug 16th here in the Ozarks. I want to start a Fall garden but I’m so sick of watering.

Im going to have to force myself to go out there and finish the fall planting. Its still predicted mid 90s this weekend. Can't wait.

nice. The grasshoppers ate ours this year and for some reason, the gophers really like black eyed pea plants. They cut the stem and then pull the whole plant down into the ground. little bastards.

I bought a bunch of seeds from Baker Creek and planted the winter garden this week.

Nice. I've got some purple hull peas as well.
Got any interesting recipes? I've never cooked them before. My plan was to just cook them like I would white/red beans and I was going to add some smoked brisket to them.

Can I still plant beets and mustard greens in CENLA?

What's eating my cabbage seedlings (the ones towards the back)?
Edit: never mind. Was watering the tray and saw this little bugger wiggling between the soil blocks. Guess I'll go mix up some bt.

That garden dojo of yours looks like paradise. I’m surprised you haven’t added some gutters and a rain barrel to it yet. I want to add that to my chicken coop but haven’t figured out how to attach the gutters where they need to go yet.
I’m hoping to get out there today to start prepping my beds for carrots, cabbage, and spinach. I need to pull back mulch and add a layer of compost first.

thx!
I have the gutter I just haven’t hung it yet. It’s really nice and about 20 deg cooler under there

Finally got my carrot seeds in the ground last week. Also planted another row of cabbage seeds.
The stems on a few of the butternut squash are starting to turn brown, so it looks like I may be harvesting some soon.
Also, I pulled the cucumbers cause I made a ton of pickles and we have more than enough! Fall cucumbers were a big success!

Been waiting for my purple hulls to finally play out and throw some carrots seeds down. My tomatoes I planted just after Mother's day have been putting out like crazy. Birds getting all of my cherries these days. Bell, marconi and japs still doing very well. Between all that and the squash and okra, I went and bought a freezer.
Pleasantly surprised with the amount I was able to produce up here on my first go of it. Never been able to produce squash like this back home(no SVB issues here). Even had enough to trade farmer for sweet corn.
Oh, my sugar baby watermelons are still putting on fruit.

Dixondale Farms has their onion sets for purchase now. You choose your delivery week. We’ve done extremely well with onion starts from them.

That’s where I get mine from too. This soil up here is made for onions. Going to plant a good bit of garlic too.
