Had my heart set on planting a buddha's hand citron tree after seeing one while visiting a friend in Montana. Then I found out they are not allowed in LA due to agricultural restrictions. Does anyone know why?
The buddha's hand citron look interesting and taste great in salads or anything that need a lemony zing.

This is America. Do what you want.
Although I doubt a tree that is native to Montana will grow in the gulf south.

Trust me, I've had sleepless nights thinking about breaking the law here.

The tree is not native to Montana, it's just not allowed in AL,AZ,CA,FL,GA,LA,OR,TX.
They say the reason is agriculture restrictions.

The point remains. If it can flourish in Montana, it probably won’t like it here.
But I’d still give it a try.
I was told a cherry blossom tree wouldn’t do well in SLA but I planted one and it did great, until I moved and the idiots that bought my house cut it down.

I have all my tomato along with started broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts on the porch, but waiting til the blowtorch of heat turns down alittle before planting them.
I planted fall potatoes this morning before it got up to 100.

I guess the slight cool off and a couple afternoon showers did it, but my eggplants are absolutely loaded. And the 4 Cherokee’s I planted weeks ago have shot up several inches. Peppers and peas still going strong.
After reading your post, I guess I’m going to plant fall potatoes. Got some left from summer harvest.

First fall tigger melon. I was wondering when it was ripe and it fell off the vine. Very mild flavor. Smell and texture are great.

I'm hesitant to start my broccoli and cauliflower in this heat. It was so tough to get eggplant and Butternut squash going, I'm sure it will be harder on the brassicas. I may regret that in December though.

I got 4 of each today. If they die, they die and I’ll replant the rows. Would like to have some early if possible.

Cool looking melon.
I'm having trouble getting motivated to plant.
Started broccoli, cabbage, & cauliflower seeds. The broccoli never germinated & the others withered away. So I went out & bought some transplants but still haven't planted them yet. It's either too hot or it rains for several straight days.

Anyone know what would eat about 1/4 of a bell pepper? I see no sign of leaf eating-just the small peppers.

Have had them before. Thanks for the suggestion. Traps go out tonight.

That’s a neat looking melon.
This morning I put some cabbage seeds to soak. We’ll have overcast skies and chances of rain for the next few days. So it’s time to get them going.
The slightly cooler (and I use that term loosely) weather has kicked the pumpkins back into gear. They are looking rough, but making new growth and finally putting flowers back on. I have 3 new sugar pie pumpkins growing. The xtra large varieties still haven’t set any fruit. But the vines are coming to life so I hope I get something from them soon.
Normally it’s the bumblebees that are all over the flowers, but this morning the honeybees had taken over.
Peekaboo!

Got my cabbage seeds in the ground this morning. Next weekend I’m going to take a trip to my local garden center for carrot seeds.
Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins.

I was just in garden and eggplants are covered with bees. There’s a very tiny one I saw on one of the flowers. Tapered with bands, thought deer fly at first, but the shape wasn’t the same. Went to get phone to take a pic and it was gone.
Probably have 3.5-4 gallons of various peppers to pick, just don’t feel like dealing with them right now.

The first female flower on my Tromboncino/Zucchino Rampicante squash. Pretty excited about this one.
I'm currently picking 2 or 3 Desi squash per day off of two plants. I have two Scallop squash plants that are struggling. One of them is infested with aphids and the other has what I'm guessing is vine borers.

Awesome! I’ve been having plenty of bees but every time I see a female flower on my pumpkins I hand pollinate just to be sure.

I’ve been having a huge problem with them the last month. Never seen anything like it it. I wonder if the hot and dry weather has something to do with it?
ETA: On that note, I finally got a good, steady rain yesterday afternoon!

Still wasn’t enough to cure the drought. But it was desperately needed.

No idea but it's weird how they pick specific plants. Earlier this year a single pepper plant got infested and they didn't get on any other pepper plants that were touching it. The squash plant that has them is literally touching that same pepper plant but the aphids haven't moved over to it.

I've been getting an eight of an inch or so every few days. Just enough to piss me off.

That's a very healthy Tromboncino/Zucchino Rampicante squash vine and a beautiful first squash on it.
I think you've got yourself a definite winner that'll provide you with a very bountiful harvest, especially with the typical, cooler nights and daytime temperatures we should soon be experiencing in the fall!
