re: Yoga/Mobility/Flexability Thread
Anybody ever look into the Kokoro yoga by the ex-Seal Mark Divine?

This guy spoke at a work conference I was at yesterday and he has intrigued me. Anyone ever heard of him?

I used to laugh at yoga and look down on the concept. Not anymore. If you need to improve flexibility and balance, do it.

I train in BJJ under Rickson/Royler Gracie. They swear by it so I started doing it. Has helped my game tremendously and plus I go to a class where it is mostly if not all soccer moms.

re: Yoga/Mobility/Flexability Thread
I’ve been thinking about getting into this...

I have a very weak core, and my genetics screwed me on muscle . I have super tight hamstrings, glutes, and back. When I use a foam roller on my back, it looks like im trying to reshape a 2x4.

Anyone have a yoga for golf thoughts. I have lifted over the winter and my flexibility on the old swing is rough so far.

re: Yoga/Mobility/Flexability Thread
I highly recommend that anyone wanting to get into yoga go to a studio a few times a month at least as they begin just to learn proper technique. There are a LOT of very good videos out there on the internet for yoga, but none can make adjustments for you.

Plus...yoga pants

Yoga has been huge for my hips as a distance runner. Also have gained a lot of strength in my shoulders as I work toward a shoulder stand. Flexibility and stability are super important in older age, so stretching and getting that balance younger in life will have lasting effects later in life.

People who think it's "girly" or "not manly" to do yoga haven't actually been in a yoga class before.

re: Yoga/Mobility/Flexability Thread
I have been doing yogalates in BR for a year now. It is a great work out and they change the routine every week. It helped me a lot duck hunting, as my hips used to hurt walking in waders.

I recently got back into running and I. Have never been a runner. It made it a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

Thanks for this, very functional. I took for granted being a good athlete with great balance, but as I've got older even though I'm still in good shape, especially for my age, my flexibility really suffered.

Focusing on mobility exercises and stretching is really helping me.

A thread for everyone to post their favorite videos and bounce ideas off each other. Yoga has def helped with my recovery and my mobility with my arse to grass squats, deadlifts and power cleans.

Also post and foam rolling positions and routines you might know.

yoga for runners

I been hitting this video a couple times a week and its been helping out for more than just running.

You have me curious as to your injury that led to you recovering.

I tore my Achilles playing basketball about three or four years ago, and outside of physical therapy, yoga was easily the best thing I did for recovery in mobility, strength, etc. Squats helped a good bit once I got to a certain level of strength, but yoga was far and above.

re: Yoga/Mobility/Flexability Thread
Me and the wife have been doing ROMWOD every night. She has been doing yoga for years. I, however, am stiff as frick.

I'm hoping this will help. I struggle with almost all of the positions.

The lack of mobility in my ankles really hinders me.

This is week 2. Not sure if I have noticed anything significant yet.

Ask me again in 6 months.

re: Yoga/Mobility/Flexability Thread
Been doing it once a week for nearly three months now. Ugh.

Made actual progress last week for the first time. Actually bent to the left side at the waist and was able to touch the ground with my fingers. Its amazing how weak my lower body muscles are when we do stretches or poses that involve any kind of balance. I usually do shoulders on Sunday in the gym so my upper body is pretty tight when I do yoga on Mondays.

re: Yoga/Mobility/Flexability Thread
I'm a little late to this thread, but I'll add my comments below.

Let me preface this by saying that I've been lifting since probably 7th grade and played sports all through high school. I've always stayed active but never really focused on any sort of stretching or mobility.

I began yoga about a year ago when I moved to Australia. It is easily the best thing I've done from a fitness perspective in years. I don't want to make it sound like some infomercial cure-all, but I absolutely adore it. I'm now in my mid 30s, and I alternate yoga and lifting each day. I will not do the next lift session until I've had my intermediate yoga session. I think it's that important.

I lift Monday - Wednesday - Friday, and I do yoga Tuesday - Thursday - Saturday. I have seen dramatic core strength improvement. My hips have completely released to the point where I have actually been able to surpass squat plateaus that I've been struggling with all my life. I didn't change diet or lifting structure. All I changed is the added yoga, and it's made such an incredible impact.

I also have no objective way to measure this, but aesthetically I absolutely think it's lengthened my physique, which the Mrs agrees with.

Stick with it, commit to doing it repetitively, and you WILL see results. My single leg training has also gotten leaps and bounds better through the improvements in my balance, hips, and core strength.
