Chicken apple sausage breakfast burrito

vs.

Protein peanut butter dark chocolate bar

Comes down to: lower carb/calories vs. lower sugar. Which is better for you & why?

You're asking the wrong question. They're both fine in the right context. What are your goals? Your calorie intake? Which would you prefer flavorwise

620mg of sodium in the first one. If you don’t have high blood pressure now, you will if you keep eating that.

Hobson's Choice there. Give yourself better options.

If I had to guess, that bar is actually better for you, even with the added sugars. At least you're getting fat from peanuts, which have a lot of monounsaturated and saturated fat to "dilute" the omega 6 PUFA.

I'm guessing that burrito has a bunch of shite soybean oil added, given only 3 of the 11g of fat are from the sausage (assumed from SFA content).

I'm not concerned about the sodium if you're eating well and hydrating. But that's a piece of shite food so hopefully not a staple.

Maintain current weight, maybe drop 2-4 lbs. Eat healthy enough to lower risk of heart disease, cancers, etc

If I were forced to choose which is "healthier" I'd agree with you

Yeah and without seeing the ingredients it's hard to say much more. I guess if that burrito has egg the. That would account for some more nonSFA and would be better.

And of course I would never waste that many carbs on a prepackaged breakfast burrito (or a "protein" bar) unless I had no other choice.

Macros are protein, carbs, and fat.

Sounds like you should consider keto(under 20g of carbs a day) or at least low carb if you want a good health benefit from a diet.

Sugar is the devil. Fat isn't.

If it's the Good Food Made Simple brand burrito then here is the ingredients list:

quote:

Flour Tortilla (Wheat Flour, Water, Whole Wheat Flour, Palm Oil, Baking Powder, Cane Sugar, Salt, Guar Gum, Non-Gmo Corn Starch), Cage-Free* Egg Whites (Egg Whites, Whole Milk, Non-Gmo Corn Starch, Sea Salt, Pepper), Chicken Apple Sausage (Skinless Chicken Thigh, Dehydrated Apples, Water, Salt, Brown Sugar, Less Than 2% Of: Spices, Flavorings, Granulated Garlic, Natural Smoke Flavor), White Cheddar Cheese (Pasteurized Cultured Milk, Salt, Enzymes), Organic White Cheddar Cheese Sauce (Water, Organic Corn Starch, Salt, Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Natural Cheddar Cheese Flavor, And 2% Or Less Organic Canola Oil), Organic Roasted Russet Potatoes (Organic Potatoes With Organic Olive Oil), Organic Salsa (Organic Diced Tomatoes [Organic Tomatoes, Organic Tomato Juice, Sea Salt, Naturally Derived Citric Acid, Calcium Chloride], Organic Diced Onions, Organic Jalapeno Peppers, Organic Vinegar, Organic Lime Juice, Organic Scallions, Organic Cilantro, Organic Corn Starch, Sea Salt, Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Cumin, Organic Black Pepper, Organic Coriander, Organic Chili Powder), Organic Red Peppers, Organic Scallions, Organic Corn Starch.

Apart from the loads of carbs, for those who care about that, the ingredients are [eta: I meant NOT] terrible.

Honestly, for a freezer burrito, that ingredient list is pretty good. I would expect worse. That cheese sauce is the one abomination

I agree. I can't freaking type on my phone. I've been saying the opposite of why I mean to say a lot lately. Must be impeachment syndrome.

Thanks for the info. The burrito would be more of a one-Saturday-a-month type deal. The protein bar I eat 2-3 mornings a week because it’s so convenient and tastes good without being pure sugar like a nutrigrain bar or something.

Btw, what do you eat for breakfast?

No, you should really step out your keto bubble. Coming from someone that does keto plenty of times.

I do agree both these options suck though.

I'm not in a keto bubble.

There's certainly many good ways to eat. Keto does provide good health benefits for many kinds of people. There are other great ways.
