My hamstrings and abs are sore after hex bar deadlifts. I also do a brisk bike session after my deadlift days.

Note: I’ve only been deadlifting regularly for six weeks haha.

Ah. That's probably just where your weak points are. Even if your hams aren't primarily activated, you'll still be sore if you're overloading a weak point.

You're probably decreasing quad soreness with the bike too. Bike after squats is great to help prevent DOMS.

Hex bar? Might as well just do squats. Straight bar? No one should do them unless required for their sport.

Just because you are incapable of doing a lift doesn't mean there is something wrong with the lift. The risk vs reward for deadlift is very low if doing the lift correctly and not trying to do it in a fatigued state.

I agree, but the if doing correctly part appears to be very difficult for people. I cringe every deadlift day.

Only at crossfit gyms where the workouts include 50 deadlift as fast as you can

You actually have it backwards. In those wods, the weight is light, and form doesn't seem to be an issue. I see it with the smaller sets where people are lifting heavy.

I see bad form in the high rep routines. Lifters are focused on getting through the sets. The heavy, low rep sets have lifters who focus more on form. At leasy that is what I see at my gym.

why would i care if others i have nothing to do with can't deadlift correctly? if i am not coaching them nor have really interaction wiht them, their stupididy for not using the vast resources available has nothing to do with the lift itself.

The more challenging a lift, the greater the reward. Also, there's greater risk.

It's harder to hurt yourself doing air squats than it is with 400 on your back. You will also build far more strength with 400.

That's how all of exercising works, pretty much.

Straight bar deadlifts have put me out of commission twice. It is a very unforgiving lift if your form breaks down when going heavy. One time was just trying to max out and the other was the BBB challenge doing 5x10 @ 90% TM. Yet I still do them. I have done hex bar here and there and I keep telling myself to just switch over to them 100%. I am never going to compete, lifting is just for me.

If you use the hex bar, make sure you flip it over and not use the elevated handles. Those handles are cheating

I find it interesting that this one topic is the only one that turns you into a douche

It's probably the comment you made that condemns people that do a particular exercise because they don't have to.

Especially that you are downing arguably the best exercise in lifting weights.

Right.

Deadlift seems far more useful of a lift for everyday life than say, a snatch, which I know Alx does all the time in Crossfit

I’ve been doing hex bar deadlifts using the wrong handles? WTF

How hard can I expect next week’s deadlifts to be given that I will do them using the correct handles?

At the end of the day, all lifting is optional.

I don't really sweat any particular exercises. Good exercise with proper form is productive, and you can never eliminate injury risk.

I blew my shoulder a year ago in an activity that had nothing to do with lifting or the gym. Sometimes, **** happens.

They give me hemorrhoids, but I admit that my form sucks.

re: Which is better: hex bar or straightbar deadlifts?
I dont know that bad form causes hemorrhoids.

Deadlifts are fine. I dont know that I have seen anyone hurt themselves doing them, the weaker person is generally limited by grip as much as anything. The only time I came close to hurting myself deadlifting was with the reverse grip and my right bicep.

And high school coaches taught it completely wrong, but that is another thing. They basically eliminated the posterior chain.

Now, crossfit gyms should outlaw the clean. That bastard is going to kill 90% of crossfitters. I have been to multiple gyms over 5 years. It is not bad gym isolated.

I'm absolutely sure that it was my deadlifts though.

None of my comments condemn people at all.

We do both about the same. Deadlifts today. I hate Wednesdays.
