To keep that old man a bay as long as possible.
The lyric from Sons of Legion's the song reminds me..."This life can't win if you don't bet
There's an old man coming, but he ain't here yet."

At 48, I woke twice at night vomiting from acid reflux. It pissed me off so I changed my eating to a carnivore lifestyle. I was probably 35-40 pounds overweight. I am naturally a small framed guy. I’m 5’9” and started at 183.
I changed the way I ate and started feeling better. After a few months, I started exercising. I took it slow for a month or so then began to push myself.
I got down into the low mid 150’s but have gotten into mid 160’s now at 16% body fat.
Why do I train? At 51, to feel better, but 2 years ago, at 49, I started riding dirtbikes again. Then 8 months later started doing a few LACC off-road races.
Last Sunday, my average heart rate for 98 minutes was 168 bpm. I train to be able to maintain that with my main goal to be the fastest 45 plus off road racer in Louisiana. I’m currently in the 3-4 range but close to 1st and 2nd.
Second, I train for a goal of qualifying for the 55 plus class of motocross at Loretta Lynn’s, I have some work to do to make it to that place because it’s been 30 years since my last mx race. I have 4 more years to prepare for that class.
My discipline has changed my wife’s eating habits and workouts, my sons and daughter, an my employees.
That’s worth the early mornings and stepping away from sugar

1. I enjoy it. Even in high school I was a weirdo who enjoyed the off season training more than I did the games. I'm glad I'm fitter than most of my peers and I'm glad I'm fit enough for most any activity I care to undertake, but that alone wouldn't be enough if I didn't find fulfillment in the process itself.
2. In a world where I'm constantly reminded any control we think we have is mostly an illusion, working out gives me some measure of control, if only over myself.
I have an MD friend who's into longevity, works out like crazy, and takes all kinds of supplements. I dismissed that as wishful thinking a long time ago. Father Time always gets his due. We've come a long way in staving off the ailments that used to kill most of us in middle age, but I don't know if medicine is doing us any favors. From what I've seen, being elderly is no picnic, and being very elderly can be bloody awful.
I've written about losing my SO last year until y'all are probably sick of it. But while I miss her terribly and losing her literally almost killed me, I take some comfort that she went peacefully in her sleep, and was spared the ravages of cancer or alzheimers, which will get most of us if we live long enough,

Many reasons. I enjoy it especially the feeling I get leaving the gym knowing I just did most likely the hardest part of my day.
I want not only my muscles but my bones strong as I age.
I want to be around for a long time for my son and my wife and teach him about health and taking care of your body.
In my mid 40s now and I feel great day to day. Consistency in my workouts is the key. And always nice hearing someone say how much younger they thought I was.

Be a better version of myself and not throw out my back carrying kids.

I just hate people.
The chicken legged a-hole that plants his shite on a deadlift platform that proceeds to go into another room to warm up for 35m? The assholes that merge onto I-10 at 37mph? DIAF. The chicks that bring Stanleys into the gym and leave them on every flat surface available, including benches and boxes?
I don't train *for* them, but it makes my training so much better.

That's what the gym is for. I've said fewer than 30 words to anyone in the gym I've been going to for over a decade, including the owner. The iron takes the anger away. I need the anger to not be a bitch that wanders around talking about real estate for ten minutes between each set.
ETA: Maybe 40 words. Some trainer I've never spoken to did ask me for my name last month.

I'm doing it for my kids (14 & 15). Their ma died 4 years ago so it's just us. Trying to shake the drinking as a coping mechanism. I feel like I'm almost there, but the struggle is real. If any of yall are religious say a prayer for me that I can kick it. Thanks!

You have been prayed for.
I went through the same drinking battle and have come out on the other side. It’s beautiful and wonderful. I’m finally happy again.
If interested in it happening to you, shoot me an email and maybe I can help:

I don’t want to be old and weak. I’ve seen too many of my older relatives lose muscle as they age, have trouble with basic every day tasks and I want to fight that while I still can.

I see now. You’re just a douchebag. Carry on

To find that equilibrium between work hard and play hard.

saw a video today that they asked this exact question....his response was perfect.. "I aint training for shite, but if something pops off, Ill be ready"
I follow Josh Bryant and follow alot of his philsophy....so essentially im training to be gas station ready so when something pops off at the gas station, im ready to roll.
oh and i like to look good and be a good example for my kids.
