Just got my blood work back from my annual physical, and noticed my Vit D was low (27). 2 years ago when we last did it (skipped 2020 due to COVID), it was 16. The Dr. suggested I take 2,000 IU of Vitamin D back then, which I have done daily for 2 years now. The new suggestion is just bump it up to 3k-4k and we'll monitor it over the next year.

I am in my early 40s, BMI around 24.2, & take no prescription meds. I need to increase workout regimen (been taking it slow because I destroyed my body in my 20s-30s with not paying attention to pain indicators), in the past 5 years other than allergy issues, only sickness was COVID

Only "pills" I take daily are Vit A, Vit C, Vit D & Zinc

Other than diet change, what simple solution am I overlooking? I need to start eating more fish, go back to my smoothies for breakfast(large servings of Yougurt & oatmeal), what other quick changes can I incorporate in my diet?

Fish oil supplement. Great source of Vit D.

Do you spend a lot of time outside? If not that may be an easy fix.

I am outside a lot on the weekends, weather permitting. My biggest issue is during the work week getting outside is nearly impossible. Hell, when I got a promotion at the beginning of the year, they moved me to a bigger office and took away my windows

Going outside is the easy fix. If you start upping your d3 supplementation you may want to look into adding k2.

Additionally Vitamin D is fat soluble so I'm under the impression taking it with your fattier meals of the day and/or with a fish oil supplement helps absorption.

quote:

In addition, only a handful of foods contain significant amounts of vitamin D.

These include cod liver oil, swordfish, salmon, canned tuna, beef liver, egg yolks and sardines. That said, you would need to eat them nearly every day to get enough vitamin D.

If you do not get enough sunlight, it’s often recommended to take a supplement like cod liver oil. One tablespoon (14 grams) of cod liver oil contains more than three times the recommended daily amount of vitamin D (4).

If you are taking supplements and are still low in Vitamin D then you may have an absorption problem. I have found that sublingual dosing is more effective. Designs for Health makes a good product. A few drops under your tongue is all that is needed.

I’m in my late 40’s I had similar issues with vitamin D several years ago. I just did blood work and my vitamin D was 63.

I take 10,000 iu of vitamin D. It’s the liquid gel cap types because they are supposedly better absorbed. I also take it with 200 mcg of K2 in the liquid gel caps. I’m also taking 5,000 milligrams of fish oil pills. I take this daily and I take all of it at night when I eat my fatty meal a dinner.

Go shirtless outside for 30 minutes a day.

I'm no doctor but seems like you could be taking at least 5K IU...

I've taken 5k IU w/ K2 combo for years...

" I’m also taking 5,000 grams of fish oil pills. "

Eleven pounds is quite impressive. :)

You're like me; can't really go outside during the work week.

You can significantly up you Vit D intake. I've found that 5000iu works well for me. I've seen people take 10k iu daily with no issues.

Magnesium helps Vitamin D absorbency. wouldn't hurt to add that to your diet. Chances are you are low on it anyway.

I take 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 every day, as well as fish oil supplements and a daily multivitamin. My level was ~25-27 when I started the vitamind D3 supplementation, now usually sits ~70.

Mine was low despite the fact that, at the time, I was going for hour walks every day, crossfitting (which often includes running outside), and then ofc weekend yard work. I also have hypothyroidism and chronically low red blood cell count, so who the frick knows what's wrong with me
