Have any of you dealt with this?
My 19 yr old son tore his but after an MRI the specialist said it’s not bad enough to require surgery, I think he said it was a 4 mm tear.
Problem is he’s been “down “ doing the RICE treatment for two months and it’s still swollen, doesn’t seem to be getting better.

Physical therapy. Need to reactivate and strengthen the muscles around the knee and hip.

I tore mine at 35 but it was the inner part that can heal and with physical therapy it did. The physical therapist straight up told me I can help you but if it’s going to heal it’s going to heal and this was a workplace injury with in house physical therapy. I have absolutely no lingering issues.

RICE doesn’t do shite.
Get him on Knees Over Toes, start with ATG Zero and progress.
Tore mine at 40 and knees are stronger than ever thanks to KOT. No surgery.

Stop doing RICE
It’s wrong on so many levels. Find a good PT with a history in rehabbing athletes

The torn cartilage isn’t gonna heal itself and fuse back together
I’d get them to do the little scope and fix it
It’s such a minimally invasive procedure anyway
I tore mine at 20. Luckily the good lord blessed me with more cartilage in my meniscus than most people according to my orthopedic surgeon so what I “lost” when they clipped it off and fixed it, didn’t set me back any. No issues and that was 17 years ago

Part of it gets more blood flow and it can heal, the outer 1/3 I think?

I’ve had tears in both knees
Somewhat limiting but generally okay
Recommendation- keep muscles around the knee strong.
Avoid twisting motions of the knee

Tore mine playing HS football. Never had anything done to it and it would swell up and give trouble occasionally for 25 years until I had enough.
Had surgery on it about 10 years ago and haven't had any issues since. Surgery was easy with 3 little incisions, was up on my feet the next day.
Good luck to your son.

Physocal therapist here: Rice actually isnt the best approach.
Get a comprrssion sleeve to help manage swelling elevate when resting.
Need to get the knee moving tonrestore any lost range of motion and start a strengthening program focuaing on quads, hamstrings and hips using movements and ranges of motions that arr tolerable. Feel free to email with any questions johnpaul@guidrypt.com
