Are there any negatives to taking Emergen-C vitamin C powder once daily? It has 1000mg of Vitamin C. I've been taking it for months now and my immune system seems to be stronger than ever.

There is some sugar in it, but not sure how healthy the other ingredients are. If not Emergen-C, what's the board's go-to vitamin C supplement?

Hard to believe it's all that bio-available. Why can't you just eat food that contains actual Vitamin C?

And why do people believe they need to mega-dose with vitamin C? Is scurvy making a comeback?

Literally pissing money away.

Right now satsumas.

I thought I read that you don't want to take it on days/days after you lift weights. It reduces inflammation which to get gains, you need.

Someone can correct me on that but I am just throwing it out there.

I’ve been taking it daily (with a week or two off in between just because i run out) for a few months now and ive avoided all the illnesses my 2 young kids being home from school. Knowing that, I’ll take happily take it with some regularity.

I’m seeing the exact same. Although I know eating satsumas, etc is the preferred method, it’s not feasible for me daily.

My main concern was if there was any negatives to taking daily.

I've heard this my entire life and still don't understand it. Ya know what else reduces inflammation? Testosterone.

I was taking it simply to try and avoid common cold, sinus inductions, etc. It seems to have worked very well.

I’m concerned if there are any negative effects, or better alternatives. I do eat satsumas when possible.

To address a few of the topics…
Risk/negatives: I would be cautious of the daily dose sitting on your teeth. The high acid content could be eroding your enamel. Make sure to brush after.

Also, someone suggested eating your value of Vitamin C. Unless you are a fruitarian (look it up) that is not really feasible (15-20 citrus fruits a day).

Maybe, just maybe, the "recommended value" of vitamin C is off if you need to eat 20 pieces of vitamin C rich fruit to attain it.

Yep. Another consideration is the crowding out of the Vitamin C molecule by carbs, as they are similar. In a low carb body environment, you need barely just trace amounts of C to get your fill.

I take it quite often. Took it all during Covid. It has Zinc and Vitamin D also if you take the Super Emergen C version. Supposed to be immune boosters.

If you have a propensity to develop kidney stones, high levels of Vitamin C like that can create stones.
