So I started at 194 about 3 and a half months ago and decided to set a goal for 165. I have reached that goal, and I must say I'm a bit underwhelmed with how I look. I guess at this weight I was expecting better results. What fat I have left seems to be making a last stand on my lower stomach... which is the main area I wanted to lose fat...

I'm pretty frustrated at this and am now gonna have to set a new goal for 155. Once I hit 155 I plan on doing more weight training as right now my main goal is to get lean. Is this a good plan or should I do something different?

I'm 5'11" btw

You should be doing that now. That's probably why you think you look bad, because you don't have any muscle.

Amen. This is the easiest thing to change. Solid weight training programming will go a long way towards changing to good body composition.

I’m in a similar boat. Is 30 min cardio/30-45 min weights good enough w/good diet? Currently at 65-70 mins cardio

What do you think the cardio is achieving besides burning up muscle? Fat is burned through being in a caloric deficit. You do not need cardio to lose fat.

What program are you following for lifting?

How long have both of you been dieting and doing this much cardio? What are your macros currently? Answer that and I will post exactly what to do in the morning.

You must have long skinny legs in proportion to your torso, because I'm a hair under 6' and weigh 175 w very low bf. But I have a watermelon head and an ape torso, that account for the extra lbs.

Another example of why BMI is lame.

At your weight and height you'll shed that fat quickly w basic training, as everyone has suggested.

I like that level of service.

Btw I've decided I can't weight train at my Y. (Excuse de jour.) It is just way too cramped. Tell me how to set up simple home gym. (Lean muscle retention and strength heading into mid-40s are the goals.)

I don't trust myself to do squats right so I'm thinking a kettlebell routine and basic barbell stuff sans squats. To start, I was gonna make the ghettobells out of galvanized pipe I have in garage, like this, except with some caps or tape over the end threads--that looks dangerous

S'11 165, you should be thin. If you are skinny fat, it's time to start hitting the weights and fill out. Not cable tricep push downs, curl and lateral raises. You need some compound workouts. Squats, overhead pressing, deadlifts, bench pressing, etc..

I'm 5'10'' and recently got down to 170lbs through dieting alone and feel the same way. My next goal is 160lbs. I do light walking/jogging, but should probably start on some sort of strength training.

I have young kids that don't really sleep and it is not likely to get to a gym for several more months. Any recommendations for home workouts without weights or is this just a waste of time. Several years ago I followed a T25 workout video that seemed to work.

honestly if all your are looking for is what you described, start with gymnastics rings and a 53 & 36 pound kettlebell. Make a set of parralettes using pvc. Then buy a 100lbs rogue strongman sandball. After that get a sled and weights for it up to bodyweight. Last get more sandbags and KBs.

You really don't need much more then that. But if you want to eventually get a set of squat stands, bar, weights and bench, I would get after the above.

hit the calisthenics hard on the rings, kb swings, goblet squats, single leg squats, and lunges and then end the workout with strongman stuff using the 100lbs ball for conditioning or the sled.

this is what I'm thinking. I'm 6' and can easily be at 180# without being "skinny fat"

people lie to themselves about what it takes to be ripped

see this article LINK

and that is max lean body mass. No casual lifter is hitting max. someone in your position who isn't lifting at all is not even close.

somewhat, some people are able to look more ripped due to where they hold their fat, but in general you are correct. I carry 164lbs of lean muscle getting down to 12%. Anything below that and I will start losing some muscle. This is per dexa.

I don't consider myself natural though because I do take TRT even though i am within normal range easily (600-700) my levels do not go up and down like a natural.

Yea but in general 99% of people have no idea how low they have to get bodyweight wise to get to belwo 10%

If I weighted 165, people would be pulling over in the cars handing me hamburgers.

I weigh 175 and people have asked me if I’m ok or if I’m sick

They knew me when I was 230 though
