Different runs for different days.

Some days I have a long slow one planned and my body just pushes it pretty hard and I look down at my watch and find myself pushing 8 unintentionally. Some days I want to tempo and I look down at my watch and it’s around 9 and I’m miserable.

14mi LSD 139HR and 64ish for the week. Get to take tomorrow off and then 12-16 400s on Tuesday to prep for Saturday’s 5K.

Hope everyone has a great run and had as good of a week as I did.

Burt, you are getting after it. You’ll smoke that 5k this weekend.

Got in 4 easy recovery miles this am and it felt good

For sure. Ran 10 miles Thursday and felt great, like I could’ve run 10 more. Ran 12 yesterday and hated every minute of it

I'm back bitches.

Brother and I just signed up for this Marji Gesick --100miler (12k gain), third week of Sept.

Bro is much faster 7 years younger than I am, and he has completed a full Ironman and some multi-day relays. But he promises we'll stick together.

Any ultra training tips welcome.

Since it's so far out, I'm going to focus on a very slow, holistic approach with lots of cross-training. Then do a 50-mile program (Zach Bitter), then the 100 program next summer in MT.

Much needed long/easy 11.5 this am. Haven’t had a long run at an easy pace in awhile. 9:42 pace/148 HR.

Burt - I know you ran a 10K recently, what did your week of look like? Mine is this coming Sat.

Return of the Mac!

Glad to see you back around, man. Haven’t noticed you or your brother on Strava. From what I gathered he got injured also?

Man, that should be a helluva race! Excited to follow along...

Yeah he finished the IM then did a relay and plantar fasciitis got him.

I've been swimming but usually forget my watch and/or get hit in the face w a flipper or kickboard during happy fun play time at the Y and quit. I need a better pool.

I'm going to add a mile each run to ease back onto ankle but it's feeling good.

Glad to be back!

Glad to see you back Mc. Godfather part II.

Took a nice Aggie victory lap on the trails today (sorry my Tiger brethren.) One of the fastest guys I run with clipped my heels the entire run and we both set all sorts of PRs. Did about 8:45 pace, which is pretty damn fast for our set of trails.

Sometimes I wish I had someone to run with like that

May have to chase Burt down and start trying to keep up with him, he’s doing something right

Did two miles this afternoon and felt every bit of the food I ate the past three days.

Think I'm going to pull the trigger on the L.A. Marathon at the end of March. Figure now is the time since I'm halfway there and to do it before summer creeps up on me.

I’m a big believer in group runs.

If anybody follows me on Strava you see a bunch of stupid titles and joking about wolves. Came from a joke between another guy in the group and I that started calling ourselves “wolf pack.” As dumb as that is, I’m a way better runner because of those guys pushing me. I’m very middle of the pack for our group but I’ve gotten better in a lot of aspects because there are guys to catch up with or beat or somebody texts, “let’s go do hills.”

There’s a almost 50 YO in our group that dominates his age group in races because he tries and keeps up with us young punks. He can’t beat us, but put him against other 50 YOs and he is a boss. One dude is an old Army Colonel that can’t beat any of us in a foot race but can outlast all of us.

First "failed" long run in a while. Planned 16, ran 10. I totally had 16 in me, but had just driven 6 hours home after a late night. Went straight to running when we got in. Started getting dark and even though I had my headlamp ready, my heart just wasnt in it. Too much going on with the holiday.

Burt, how big a boy are you? I see all these sub 7 and 8 min guys in here and I get depressed. Then I see you in the low 10s where I've been and feel normal, so thank you. Lol. Now my low 10 number is really only for 10k max, couldn't imagine doing 20 at that pace. I'm currently at 265 lbs. I ran a 10k 2 years ago in 1:09 at 280 lbs.

It’s a blessing. If you don’t have a group of people to train with, I’d highly recommend finding some people.

Most of us go to the same church, so it’s kind of a built in group of friends, but I’m 100% a better runner because of it. I’d probably have half my KoMs if not trying to beat them. Then they threaten to come over to my part of town and try to snipe KoMs from my neighborhood. So I do my speedwork periodically trying to make sure they’re going to have to earn it. One dude and I shoot for top of the leaderboard most every week on Strava and have had numerous Sunday night runs trying to top each other. All in all it makes the whole thing more fun and allows for some good shite talking.

3 or 4 of the guys I would never have known if not for the group. We get together and grill with families every few months.

Are you looking at the right person? Burt’s the fastest guy in here right now lol

That’s impressive times and distance for that size

First run since the Turkey trot on Thursday. I didn't have a plan but I had a starting route in mind. I finished with 6 miles and an 8:43 pace which is much quicker than I anticipated.

Next goals are to drop 10+ lbs and do around 20-25 miles a week with hill intervals.i have a month until half/marathon training starts.
