Having a glance at the Strava group, it looks like I am the slow guy lol. I'm hoping over the next 7 weeks to gain some of my speed back. Week 8 will have little to no running since we are taking a trip to WDW. After that, the official marathon plan starts.

Hills are of the devil when it comes to long distance running.
Even downhill isn't a great relief.

Did this today for a mix up. Felt really good (I'm sure being in the A/C helped, ha). Will consider it my speed work for the week. Thanks for sharing.
What's everybody's alcohol consumption look like when training (if any)? I've completely cut out beer (would probably average 12-14 craft beers a week with some lighter stuff mixed in at parties, functions, etc), but I haven't had a beer since Memorial Day weekend. I'll have a couple of glasses of red wine a few nights a week, but wonder if that even may be a hindrance. It's not like I'm training for an Ultra or even a Full or anything and most of y'all can run a Half in your sleep, but I'm enjoying the change of pace in training (vs. weights) and wanting to reap all benefits.

I pretty much don't drink unless I have 2 days of rest after or an easy run the second day after. It's not that I can't at all, I'll just probably have too many and feel like crap the next day. I'm the type that drinks a whole bottle if I open a bottle of wine, or will catch myself surfing TD at 11 PM on my phone with a 6 pack polished off instead of getting good rest like I should. Cant really do the 1 glass/beer thing without falling off the rails more often than not.

I typically will have a beer or 2 at least 4-5 days a week.
I rarely drink more than 3 beers now though. Just don’t like feeling sluggish the next day.
I don’t eat a carb heavy diet so beer is my main carb consumption.
I’m actually drinking a beer right now. It will probably be my only one. I just like having a beer on the porch to wind the day down.

Not that I ever drank much, especially since graduating from college years ago, ever since I started running about 10 years ago, my drinking has virtually gone to zero.
Seriously, maybe 6 beers a year.
I just feel yucky after drinking and I feel that affects what running or training I do.

Gross.
I like everything else in that workout except the rowing. I despise rowing.

Are these man-makers? Or are you putting the dbs down when doing burpees?
Posted on 7/25/18 at 9:07 am to Salmon
It's rare that I row but when I do, it reminds me that rowing only sounds easy.
Similar to man-makers except I don't do the single arm back row. I have a dedicated exercise for that.

I’m going to reluctantly post that I’ve signed up for the Big Easy Half on 11/17. Haven’t done one in a few years.

I set out for a 10k but got the Gumps and just kept running, it was so nice out (for Atlanta in late July anyway).
Ave BPM 147
I love those long slow runs, when I can make time for them. Start w a podcast, book etc then move to music.
Saw this buck and doe grazing breakfast in the lake. Wish I'd stopped and zoomed. Hard to see antlers.

That’s awesome.
Looking ahead to weather this weekend, I’m excited. Supposed to be a low of 63 on Sunday so will probably get up real early and knock out my 9 miles.

I cant wait for that type of weather to return. Meanwhile in Louisiana, we will start our weekend runs at a crisp 75 or 76 with RH% above 90 probably. Only have to wait till November!

Looks like you ran on major roads.
I'm always concerned about that.
Do you feel unsafe?
The most "major" road I'll run on is a 2 lane county road.
Fortunately, I have plenty of ok neighborhood roads to run on that I can pile up the miles.

I can go weeks without drinking and I can finish a 6 pack in a day.
I didn’t start drinking till I was 30 so I’m pretty responsible at this age. I don’t drink cokes or sugary drinks and I don’t binge on alcohol so I don’t put any moderation on it to be honest.
Sorry I haven’t updated anything on strava. I’ve been in BFE east Texas all week and Internet is limited. I don’t know if it’s the humidity out here but if you look at my first mile of strava it’s 9:30+ for the first mile every day. Might be all the extra curricular from camp.
Loosens up a bit
I’ll advertise it and spruce it up next week.

First official marathon training run in the morning at 4 am...
Yay.

No major roads at all. I can send my route.
A lot of miles were on wilderness path and a lot of trails. One road is totally closed to everyone except Emory natural gas buses.
There's one very short stretch where I had to run on a sidewalk because they aren't finished w part of the path that connects to Lullwater park through a tunnel.
In short, it's pretty much the exact opposite of busy/arterial roads. Little map doesn't reflect that I guess. I'll hit the satellite view next time. All woods.
I refuse to run on busy roads even with sidewalks. I would stick to single track if it weren't so snakey and poison ivy-y right now.
Eta: in the fall, I'm going to do a full marathon 90%+ on trail/path. I just mapped out a 10.5 mile loop where you literally don't cross a road or leave the woods. About half path and half single track.
Another 12mi straight out of same with only one road crossing, and it has a signalled crosswalk.
You can connect the two through quiet neighborhood streets + some more short trails--less than 2 miles.
You can connect that seamlessly to the Beltline and go another 33 miles on it.
I can also for a marathon loop from my house with almost all trails and paths.
As shitty as Atlanta is to drive in, it's pretty great to run in.
They are also supposed to connect the Beltline to the Silver Comet/Chief Ladiga rail-to-trail (95 miles).

Oof. I have more work than I thought.
4.1 miles
36:37 minutes
Granted I went at a comfortable pace since this is my first run over a 5k in about a year and my first run over a mile this summer. But I was hoping comfortable pace meant 8:30.
Oh well. Just means I need to put in the work and not take runs off.
Oh and 4 am alarms suck balls.

I never believed the addage that running slow makes you fast, but my VO2 max appaears to be improving slowly after adding more slow long miles.
It's encouraging, because I can go out and not kill myself during summer and still be working toward goals (I guess I should set some of those).
One "speed" goal is to finish the Cooper River Bridge Run (10k) in April, in 48 or better. It's a difficult race to do well in unless you can start near the front and haul arse for a few miles (which includes the steep bridge grade) to get ahead of the bottlenecking. And, they've cracked down on this recently, but people used to run w strollers even in the faster corrals.
I just want to finish this mtn 15k next Sat and then finish a road full marathon in early fall. Then on to some tris.
