I’ve been at 45-60 miles per week with mine. Varies widely. I know some who are in the 70-85 range, while I did my first marathon at 30-35 miles per week. Really just depends on your goals and your past experience.

Did 11 base pace miles and 1 sub 5K pace to end it. Not a fan of running in the snow. The cold doesn’t bother me, but the foot feel is weird.

It sure was pretty out there wasn't it?!

To answer your question on the Long Run Group: you should race / train in Altra Vanish Tempos out there.

Pictures from the day before when I ran there before anyone else:

How many weekly miles do people usually do for marathon training

I was actually following the Higdon plan that was posted. I ended up having to deviate from it but somewhat loosely picked back up on it.
At my peak I did a 19mile long run and a 3mile and a five mile. This is my first marathon and I didn’t have any goal other than to finish.

6.5 base miles today. Managed a final mile of 9:30 which is my fastest zone 2 mile to date.

You're repping miles at 5k goal pace with 1 minute rest? You're going to crush a sub 20

Got behind on training for the LA Half and decided to run a 12 miler this weekend to catch up. Probably a bad idea as my legs were a little tight on my run this morning.

I hope you're right but the minute off seems to help a lot and that last mile is still pretty tough. Is there something I'm missing? I do feel encouraged that I did this the day after I ran 10 miles which is the lonest I've run in probably 20 years since a did a half on a whim in my early 20s.

Also, given this is the first time I've trained for running (and not sure I'll ever do it to this extent again) I'm kind of interested in trying a marathon if/when I go sub 20.

Has anyone ever done the New River marathon outside of Boone? It looks like a pretty cool one.

So I sold my Grandma's bib this morning and am looking for a new Marathon on the Spring. That race has peaked my interested

FWIW most "marathon runners" I know can't do a sub-20 5k. Two very different runs (like I have a few friends that would be considered "very good" by most casual runners at the marathon distance and have never done a sub-21 5k)

Why did you sell the grandma bid?

while i agree marathon and 5k are wildly different races, what are you defining as a "very good" marathoners that can't run sub 20 5k or even sub 21.

Sorry, should have put "would be considered very good by a lot of casual runners"

People that can consistently break 3:30 on their marathon times.

I mean, I have a friend that had his fastest 5k as 20:23 until the Chicago Marathon when he finished in 2:54

He got a PR in every single metric that Strava tracks except for 1k and the 2 mile at Chicago, it was intense.

Found out this weekend my 6 year old has to be at something the same weekend. Them the breaks, I'm gonna try for another and thinking sub-3:20 for now if possible. Might go for another 100 miler in the Fall now as well. It's not all bad news

ETA: 8 Miles today @ 7:52, I feel like I've unlocked a new speed since Tunnel Hill. Maybe "new speed" isn't necessarily the correct term, I feel like I'm faster yes, but like everything feels so short now that I can just keep going at whatever pace I want for as long as I want

What’s everyone’s thoughts on doing something like a 3x3 or 2x4 workout (12 or 13 miles total) one week out from race day?

My training has been less than ideal and my HM race is 1/26. I’m finally healthy and can’t decide if I should just do 12/13 miles steady or test fitness with a workout this weekend.

That's too close for my liking. It's not like you're going to gain any additional fitness this close to a race. I'd stick to like 10 miles with 3-4 of them at goal pace if you really want to get a feel for your fitness, but no more than that

Yeah, it’s more so to assess fitness/dress rehearsal for the race. I know my fitness is what it is at this point.

I think you’re right though, I’d hate to trash my legs one week out. In an ideal and non-sick scenario, I’d have worked up to a 14 mile long run one or two weeks ago and thrown in a workout somewhere too. Hate not being able to get more time on feet as I think I benefit most from that.

Did 6 (3 minute) Fartleks today - 3 @ 6:30 and then 3 @ 6:00

The 3rd 6:00 blew up halfway through and I ended up dropping off and starting my Cooldown early.

So while I'm somewhat happy about the workout, a little disappointed in blowing up on the last Fartlek.

That being said:

I think my efficiency in Endurance is starting to cause me to hate the faster stuff a bit more than I used to. It gets especially bad when I start getting around my 1 mile pace (sub 6), like today the 2 1/2 intervals I did at sub-6 where literal hell
