I did not chicken out today and ran in the cold at Lakeshore (Birmingham):

1 Mile Repeats @sub-7

I wanted to see what sub-7 felt like... Not really a fan, so not expecting a sub-3 marathon by June. I think I might be able to pull off a sub-3:20 though

Haven’t run in a long time. Will be doing couch to 5k to get back at it. Looking forward to reading what actual runners are doing.

What do you guys think about treadmills and their conversion to road races? I know it's definitely easier but what is a good estimate for an equivalent treadmill 5k time to a 19:5x road 5k?

Just go by RPE on a treadmill unless you're certain it's calibrated well. Mine is possessed. I failed a few workouts that I knew I could do because I had completed them outside. Checked the speed manually and it was about 10% faster than the display was showing.

3.5 at 24 degrees. New head thing worked great, I learned 24 isn't cold enough to need that and the head band I was using for ears (also have a visor that the light is on). Otherwise a nice balance of heat exchange, not really sweaty or cold. Flurries here and there in the headlight. Can't wait to run Friday, I hope it's blizzard conditions. I'm not joking, it's surreal running in a blizzard in the dark.

Anyone else simply not get cold when running? I'm always over dressed to start and a mile or two in, I'm taking off just about everything. Five or more miles and the gloves come off too.

I think the wind is the worst part when its cold. I will usually warm up pretty good but windy days are not fun

Thin layers. I usually keep gloves on, but mine aren't thick. I'm definitely stripping when I get in the house but during the run I can keep it balanced. Head gets the sweatiest. I can't wear anything on my legs unless it's below 20.

Weighted stairs tonight. 1 hr with the 30 lb vest at HR 125. Feels like antigravity when you take the vest off.

I was frozen today before the start. Didn't heat up until end of Mile 2. This break really messed with my body. I'm in full tights, gloves, arm warmers and dri fit shirt.

5 miles at 7:50 with a little extra sprint down the end.

Did 8 miles this afternoon in the snow. Turns out 3 inches of snow is kinda hard to get traction on, was beautiful and fun still

I slept a little late because no school and still missed the good stuff. Flurries at 6:15 as it just started here. Now we're 10 hours into it, it's beautiful. Traction does suck, it's a great way to slow your pace and stay in zone 2. I definitely don't wear my Speed's, I switch to some Vomero's I found on clearance.

Last speed work of the half marathon build. 2x1200m, 2x1000m, 1x800m, all at 3k-5k race pace. I'm still fighting with some IT band tightness but I've got it under control for the most part I think. Louisiana half in 9 days!
