please elaborate how what you just posted signals a sub 3 is possible?
I wouldn't say it does, it simply shows me that I am capable of running at 6:48 min/mile (a 2:56 marathon finish time) and my heart rate can stay low... Like finish a marathon low. 5:30 min/mile is my zone 4 / 5 for now, I feel like with enough endurance training I could get my zone 3 comfortably into the 6:45 - 7:15 range
ETA: I should also say I found the 6:48 pace not to be "super hard" - like, it was easier for me today during the 6:48 than it felt a year ago during my Half PR going 7:35. So kinda a combination of the 2

I rotate my shoes because I've been told by a few people it's good to let the foam rest, so yes, I do it.
I don’t have to rotate or break in my Xero’s.

3 miles @ HR 130.
3 mile progression run with the guy that ran at Troy.
8:30, 8:15, and 7:45 to finish. Kid is gonna kill me.

Shoe recommendations to check out for long/recovery days? Tempo days? I’m no where near the point that race day shoes would be worth it to me haha.
Since I’ve started taking running more seriously I’ve only ran in Saucony Endorphin Speeds (bought 4-5 pair of Speed 2’s and a couple pair Speed 3’s). I’ve retired the 2’s (wish I’d bought more, really liked) and getting ready to retire my last pair of speed 3’s (didn’t like nearly as much). I understand each person is different, just curious at what works for y’all - open to something outside of Saucony.
Also bought the Novablast 3 - didn’t have much luck, ran 100 miles or so in them and gave me consistent knee pain that went away with the Sauconys.
ALSO - heart rate monitor suggestions? Would prefer to go ahead and buy something “good”. Is the chest strap the best, or will one wrapped around your arm be good enough too? Would prefer wrapping around my arm.. but if the chest strap is the most accurate that’s what I’ll go with. Will the monitor connect to your watch and provide real time data that you can see during runs?

I was also a big fan of the Speed 2s, had 4 pair along the way I think. Also one of the few who didn’t mind the Speed 3s, as I went thru 2 pair of those last season. Now I use the Speed 4s for long runs & tempo runs. I find that they’re more like the Speed 2s than the 3s were. As far as easy/recovery shoe, I’ve been liking the Saucony Triumph…on second pair of those and can usually get a pair for $60-75 on Amazon. For racing, I like the Nike Vaporfly 3 for 10km & under, and Vaporfly 2 for HM-marathon distance.
ETA: to clarify, most of my long runs have some type of workout mixed in. I personally don’t just do long slow/easy runs.

Coros, Polar, and Wahoo make arm straps for HR now, maybe a few more. I'm not sure how accurate they are compared to chest but they're probably good enough. Better than wrist for sure.
I'm pretty sure any brand strap will connect to any watch. I've used my Wahoo HR monitor with my Garmin watch so I know for sure those two are compatible, but all of them should be. They'll show you live data on your watch.

The Speed 2 is basically a tempo/long run shoe. Honestly a really good do everything shoe - can go fast, slow, short, long. I’d grab something more on the daily/recovery lines - if you like Saucony, the Triumph that Walt mentioned would be good. Triumph + Endorphin Speed would be a good rotation - Triumph for daily and recovery miles, Endorphin for racing, workouts, long runs. Could maybe grab an extra pair of Endorphin Speeds (or the Pro) for racing.
I’m in a bit of a shoe purgatory at the moment. Grabbed some New Balance SC Trainer V2 but don’t like them. Gonna offload them and have Topo Specter and Diadora Atomo V7000 on order to try out. I, unfortunately, am a shoe addict and like to try different brands. Generally whatever I find on sale.

I think the hierarchy is chest strap > arm band > wrist. Polar and Garmin make good ones. Can check out Morpheus too. Peter Attia seems to like it if that means anything to you.

Thanks for all of the recommendations - going to check now and see if I can get some Triumph's on sale. If I'm running my long runs at a slow/recovery pace, would I also wear them then, or after a certain distance is it best to switch to the Speeds, regardless of if I'm not running any tempos.
Still open for other suggestions if y'all have any outside of the Saucony ecosystem.
Will do a little more research on the heart rate monitor - definitely think I'd prefer the arm strap if the reading is good enough.

Jordan
What don't you like about the NB SCTV2? i didn't like at first but they are growing on me. Won't say they are great but easy to run in and overall really comfortable. Not worth full price but recently saw them at Running Lab for $110, limited sizes. When is nike going to make a good shoe besides vaporfly? adidas adi pro 4 better live up to the 3.
Junction
faster paced runs in the Speed is probably your better option but you can do any run you have planned in either shoe and be fine. try them out a couple times on different runs and stick with whichever is more comfortable to you. I'm another one that didn't like the Speed 3 but LOVED speed 2 and ran anything and everything in them. Probably even ran trails in them once or twice.
Baddest
Please don't run your marathon at 6:48 pace and think you just ran a 2:56 overall b/c its only a 2:58. I wish you nothing but success and hope you reach your goals but some of your correlations are just hard to get behind.

I think I compress them too much. I’m a bit of a Clydesdale runner - 5’9” 174ish and typically can’t get more than 315 miles out of any shoe before it feels dead. The SC Trainer V2 remind me of the original Pegasus Turbo, each time I land it feels like a flat tire. They weren’t awful, but not giving me the feedback that I like. I like FuelCell foam too, just think it works better for me in a more dense formula and lower stack like the Rebel. If someone wants my SC trainers, I’ll let them go pretty cheap. They only have 13 miles. Men’s size 9
Good question. Outside of the AlphaFly and VaporFly, they are getting left in the dust. Maybe the new CEO will right the ship. I’ve heard good things about the new Adidas Evo SL as a super trainer/racer. I’d imagine the Adi Pro 4 will be good too.

I'm 10 months from my Marathon, I'm not about to go out and run 26 miles at anywhere close to that pace right now
The v.02 calculator has me @ about a 3:20 marathon right now. I want to keep getting better though and I want to keep pushing myself. A sub-3hr marathon might never happen for me, but I will keep pushing myself to get better until the day I can't.
After Nov. 9th and Tunnel Hill I'm going to finish up the year with a few running test at a local college and then have a plan for Grandma's written by a Jack Daniels coach. I will let them talk to me about what my goals should be, etc.
A guy I've been training with the last year and has hit the exact same metrics as me over the last year just ran a 3:18 in Chicago, he plans to try for a sub-3:05 at Grandma's. (and I hope I can still keep up with him by that time)

FuelCell foam
I tried on the SuperComp Elite yesterday and the big toe on both of my feet where rubbing against the outer lining. I really liked how stable they felt, but I can't have my toes rubbing against the lining like that, would drive me nuts

I see that you are planning on running Grandma's. I ran it back in '08. If you haven't found a place to stay, I suggest you look at Bluefin Bay in Tofte, MN.

5 miles on the treadmill tonight after a long day. As much as I hate it, the treadmill is about the only way I can stay in a low zone 2 pace 120-125.

Thursday is the hill workout. 7 miles tonight. 640’ of climb.
12:00, 11:00, 14:30, 10:00, 11:00, 9:00, 6:50 for laps. Love the progression run. It just feels so much better than any other workout. Start at HR 130, then 140, to 160, to 180+.

What HRM are y’all using? What you recommend?

I’ve always used Polar, but haven’t heard anything bad about any of them. Chest straps are the standard.
